Need some help...Looking for some Rear Speakers
I am putting together a new system...
I need some advice on ceiling mounted rear speaker for the following system. My set up will not allow for a wall mount
I have purchased the following
Harman Kardon DRP 1001 - Receiver
RTi150 - Fronts
CSi40 - Center
PSW650 -Sub
For the Rears/mid channel I am looking at the RM2350s. They are a component from the RM6600 package that can be purchased seperately. I was thinking about the RTi28 or 38 but I am not sure that they will work well hung from the ceiling
Any thots? Thanks

I would choose the CSi30 for your rear surround and either the FXi30/50 or RTi28 for your side surrounds. This will match your system very nicely.
Is the ceiling the only place you can mount them? If yes, then the FXi30/50 is out of the question, and this limits your option further because of weight. Weight is why I only mention the RTi28.
The best speaker for ceiling mount would be the RTi28. Yes it will work fine in that position, although you may need to play with the aiming and downtilt. BTech makes a bracket that will hold the RTi28, in a ceiling configuration, BUT you will have to drill the mounts into the speaker. This is why I asked about wall mounting being an option for you. This would allow you more flexibility for speaker choice.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Umm NO!!,
I do not and I repeat do not agree with aftermarket brackets that require you to drill into the speaker.........NO
I suggest you go with inceling speakers.polk has very nice inceling speakers and will perform with stellar results. This is the best ceiling way......thats what they do.
Inceiling rears is killer. It work for surroundback as well.It sounds really cool and really no placement issues here. You can setup perfect rears so to speak going all inceiling.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Thanks for the feedback...
Do you recommend the RC80i or the RC85? -

HEY MAN ! I PRETTY MUCH HAVE THIS EXACT SYSTEM EXCEPT I'M RUNNING A HK AVR520. FOR MY REARS I HAVE THE FXI30'S AND LET ME TELL YA THEIR SWEET. I JUST TURN UP THE REAR OUTPUT FROM MY HK TO ABOUT +4 OR +6 WHEN WATCHING DVD AND IT'S PERFECT. THEIR PERFECTLY MATCHED WITH THE CSI40 AND RTI150'S. AT FIRST I THOUGHT OF GETTING THE FXI50'S WITH ONLY THE MID BEING A LITTLE BIGGER, BUT I SEE NO NEED TO UPGRADE. HOPE THIS HELPS ..... RAINMAN ...... -
Rbaltram - I presumed you knew of the ceiling options that Polk offers. As mentioned, they are solid performers, but require more invasive install than a bracket.
You will either leave them when selling the house, have holes, or die with them mounted.
I ran over the ceiling speakers also when shopping and went FXi30, that was better for my situation. They sound great and I didnt want the problem of making a decision of what to do should I move, or change my mind. You have some options available to you, all of which require some holes, small or large at the least. I know of no superconducter mounts for speakers
Aftermarket brackets mounted on your speaker is not a bad thing, just an invasive thing, and not something that is usually comfortable. It involves some precautions like ensuring you maintain a solid seal, drilling into your crossover, detroying your speaker, etc. All are variables.
It was just a heads up Dan, not a recommendation.
I specifically didn't do it on MY mains, and found a bracket heavy duty enough to hold them in a clamp.
I would suggest RC60i, fine speaker, smaller footprint but still very capable. Remember that backfill or boxing the area behind the speaker will need to be a consideration. Their are some prefab tweaks for this situation.
Let us know what you are planning.
You ultimately have to make a ceiling/wall, bracket decision before we could offer too much more.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
