DSW Pro 500 turns on/off by magic

My DSW Pro 500, when set to "auto" mode, turns on and off mysteriously and makes an audible thump when doing so. This occurs when my Onkyo TX SR505 is turned off, and when it is turned on.

Also, the remote control for the subwoofer doesn't work... nothing happens when any of the buttons are pushed. The battery tested good and there is a clear line of site (3' - 4') from the remote to the sensor on the front of the subwoofer. It originally worked fine, but I haven't tried it since the initial set-up.

Any thoughts on either problem? The subwoofer is 26 months old.

    Welcome to Club Polk!
Could be a bad cable or any number of things. Try a new cable first. Has the remote ever worked?

Yes, thanks. The remote worked just fine when I first hooked up the subwoofer. But once set and tuned to my liking, I had no further need for it. I left it stored with the plastic shield disabling the battery connection; removed the shield before trying it this time.

As for the on/off auto thing, I may just detach the cable to see if that works with the sub set to "auto". btw: I now have the subwoofer set to "standby", and it doesn't come on at all, not even with "Phantom of the Opera" DVD, as it used to.

It's not getting a signal... Sounds more and more like a cable issue.

Update... I unplugged (from the subwoofer) the cable connecting the subwoofer to the receiver and still have the same problem. The subwoofer was connected only to the electrical outlet and was turning itself on and off when set to "auto". Methinks it is time for service.

I need to see of Polk will honor the 3-year warranty. I bought the subwoofer from what I thought was Amazon.com. It turns out that it was a third party selling it through Amazon.com. It was new in the sealed box and has worked perfectly for the past 26 months.

Thanks for your interest and thoughts.

Good luck! I thought you meant it was happening while it was supposed to be playing. That's a weird one...
