SRT sub drivers need TLC. Need Advise

One of my SRT subwoofers has been making strange noises when hitting deep or at louder volumes. I thought at first the drivers might be bad and was going to send them to a shop that rebuilds drivers.

However, after removing them from the enclosure, I discovered that the source of the sound might actually be due to the glue coming loose from one of the components of each driver. I've taken some pictures showing which part of the drivers appears loose (I believe they are loose because sections are still glued while other sections are loose and there appears to be dried glue). I'm looking for suggestions on whether I have correctly diagnosed this problem and if so, what type of glue I should use to reglue them.

The rubber surrounds appear to be in great condition and the drivers themselves seem to move in and out without binding or creating unusual noise.

It's my understanding that there are no replacement drivers available so I want to do this right! :D

Thanks in advance,
doug

Looks like you need to glue them. I have used super glue for the job.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Thanks Ben. Am I assuming correctly that the entire circumference (whatever that part is called) should be glued down?

Wonder if anyone has ever tried replacing them with different/better subs?

Don't know. The 2 drivers inside each sub are not identical and are wired serially. I'd be interested if Ken or someone else from Polk has any thoughts on that.

I have heard from another SRT owner that the subs really came alive when he switched to using external amplification as opposed to the built-in amps that came with the SRT subs. It appears to be an easy mod but I'd want to have a 2-channel powerhouse to drive them since they currently have 300w amps.

Not necessary. You can always upgrade the plate amps and the internal wiring.

Have you upgraded the plate amps in yours? If so, what modifications did you make? Replacing the caps seems like the most logical choice.

I'll give them a call. I think the service center is about a 15-20 minute drive from me. I'd like it done right.

The rum is starting to kick in.

What kind of external amp would you have in mind?

Any mono amplifier able to output 300+ rms that is stable to 2 ohms.

Polk CS advised me that they would fix the drivers if I sent them to the Baltimore offices or that I could use super glue as was suggested in the thread. I decided to give it a try myself. I'm satisfied with the outcome. The spiders seemed a bit brittle in places but glued back nicely. The sub sounds great again. Amazing how deep the SRT subs hit!

It's still one of the coolest loudspeakers Polk has made, even better than the SDA SRS1.2. I've yet to start modding mine but at some point I need to do it.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Balls to the wall....because after their done, I'll pack them in a box and let them become more rare while I mess around elsewhere.

Two of my subs spiders have unglued themselves. Did the same thing. Superglue and done. I did not do the whole woofer however. I just did the spot where the glue came undone. Not sure if that is the correct way but I havn't had a problem since.
