I'm in the market for a media server/player (think WD Live HD). Price needs to be $100 or below (a little above might be do-able...if it's worth it).

Needs to be able to stream 1080p MKV files from a server to the tv via HDMI and bitstream HD audio.

It's a lot to ask, I know.

The only media server thats under a 100 bucks is the new Apple TV. Roku is higher , but check out squeezebox , it's pretty cool but I believe also out of your price range.

Good luck with getting something under 100 bucks and do all you want it to do.

WD is a nice unit. I do not have the live but the one I have using an external dac for FLAC files does a nice job. Rip DVDs to it and does a nice job.

Yeah, i'm really leaning towards a WD unit...but $100 is still steep for me right now, which is why I was seeing if anyone had something used they wanted to get rid of.

I have an IO-Box 100HD (not for sale but I wanted to tell you about it). I got it from gizmodaddy and it works great. I found that playing the mkv files are kind of tricky and the IO-Box has never failed to play a format, codec , etc. There are other devices similar but have limitations. It's $169.

I put a 1TB hard drive in mine but it will run without it. Connects to your network and can access folders on a PC to play movies, music, or pics. SAMBA (allows you to map a drive letter to it from a PC) and a few other services. You can even plug a flash drive, usb hard drive, etc into it. The box has a network interface, hdmi, component video, optical and digital coax audio. Nice all around media tank.

Let me know if you want to discuss further / need more details.
