old amp and pair of monitor 4's advice please?????

someone recently gave me a custom built amp claims its two channel 100 watt per only problem is the inputs are basically just screws that im assuming you would wrap copper wire around (speaker wire) does anyone know how this would work ....i dont have high hopes ....also i need advice on dismantling a set of monitor 4's .....i wanna part them out ....also need help on pricing .....thanks guys appreciate any advice

Post some pictures including with the lid lifted off so the insides can be seen. That would help a lot to see if there is "hope".

ok will do .....if my computer likes me today i was having issues uploading pictures .....it kept saying the file was too big ...i dunno ill figure it out ...also im not questioning the person who built the amp abilities because he was like an audio engineer for raytheon or something ....basically hes the real mccoy just not sure if the amp is usable in the "real world"......any advice on the monitor 4's...what will the parts sell for aproximate.....speakers are about a 6/10 will post pics of these as well....

the amplifier is a sanken hybrid audio amplifier 2 channel 100 w rms/channel built in 1974

just found the manuals and schematics .....wiring diagram etc...i believe it was a diy kit you could buy

How did you come to learn it is a Sanken hybrid, as you did not know it in your very first post?

i just found the manual and wiring diagrams....says it right on it .....it even has notes of the guy who built it ......of coarse its like a foreign language to me ..........transitors...fuses...phase reversal blah blah blah anybody hear of this kind of amp if so what was your experience

The reason as you have found, is that this site has a size restiction on the photos we can submit. Im not sure which program(s) you use to edit your pics? But you can choose to "resize" them in your edit window. In whatever program, size them down to at least 12.00 W x 6.00 H thats about 70,000 pixels/inch. That way you can send multiple pics. :cool:

As to your next question why sell them? Why not build a 2ch rig with the both? My .02 worth.

Yeah I had thoughts about keeping them and rebuilding them and refinishing them as kind of a little project......also thought about making my 5.1 a 7.1 by adding these only problem is I won't be able to reap the benefits of 7.1. Without a blu ray ......because most dvds are 5.1 along with most cable stations......anybody know where I can go to get parts for these particular speakers.....and roughly how much would it cost to rebuild them .....

just hooked everything up for the second time after cleaning and three out four fuses popped on the amp.......they are the originals ...

--- In post 1 you were "given" a mysterious custom built amp.
--- Then in post 3 we learn the person who gave you the amp is said to be the "real McCoy", and an "audio engineer for Raytheon or something".
--- In post 5 everything sounds "awesome".
--- But then in post 6 you relate "got the 4's on the side of the road" and the amp was now "rescued from the trash". (what happend to the Raytheon dude?)
--- And in post 14 you magically "found the detailed, branded manuals and schematics .....wiring diagram etc".
--- Then after cleaning everything up, during your second listening session most of your fuses blow.

It's strange that your ever-changing story needed alomst 20 posts because you posted it 1 line at a time instead of as a paragraph or 2.

So what's the agenda? What in the world is going on here?

the deal is the raytheon guy was cleaning out his basement.....hence i saved it from the trash ......the monitors i got on the side of the road because a customer of mine was throwing them out and didnt realize what he had......when i hooked the amp up to the monitor 4's it sounded great when i attempted to hook it up to my 60's the fuses blew .....thats everything in a nutshell

Super. My advice is . . .

- - - don't part out the 4's. Keep them intact and keep them, or sell them. They aren't making them anymore and in my humble opinion, it's almost sacrilegious to part them out.

- - - definitely build out a 2-channel rig

- - - the Sanken looks like a quality piece of vintage gear that could be modernized with some new caps, etc. and binding post. Get it restored and you'll probably have the only one in the US.

what you said about the sanken is very interesting ......any suggestions on what parts to replace and where to get them and or someone who could rebuild it i may do it myself.....kind of a beginner in this realm of audioism though......and yes your right the 4's sound really good and i should keep them ....should i even touch these, possibly give them a tune up .....
