Speaker Cable Splitter

Hello All!

I’m seeking the collective wisdom of the board again with something I’m guessing is very straightforward. I have a monitor based system and I find it distraction that the Monitor 70s have 4 drivers and the center only has 2, I would like to have 4 drivers there as well. This has driven me to look for another CS2 to put next to the one I already have.

Now where the question is, I purchased a new receiver from the board a Yamaha RX-V2700. I was reading its manual and it said it, can drive 4ohms but 8 is recommend. So to get 8 ohms I want to wire the two Cs2 in parallel. This would require a positive and a negative splitter to run to each speak. I can’t feed to find a splitter for audio cables. I have an RCA one for the subs, but can’t find one for speaker wire.

So my question is, do I just twist the 3 wires together and toss some heat shrink over it? Or is this completely the wrong way to do this? Thanks.

Bill

To me the best way to do this is with an external amp.

    1) getting a RCA splitter for your center channel preout on the back of the receiver ( if yours has one) then one IC going to one channel of the amp and another going to another channel of the amp then of course hooking up both center speakers side by side..

I don't see any other way of doing this properly but others may chime in and school me..

If you wire them parallel the load on the receiver will be 4 ohms. If you wire them in series they will be 16 ohms. Neither way requires a splitter, just wire.

So which what is the correct way? I can't figure out how to do series without two splitters. And I should have said above 8ohm. The receiver said it can driver great ohms but not less then 8. One review I found had it driving 32ohm.

Still not recomended but series is created by you taking pos to one speaker and the neg to 2nd speaker and a common wire joining the pos and neg from each speaker thus creating 16ohm from 2-8ohm spkers or 8ohms from 2-4ohm spkers. We do this with paging systems but take a 2nd pair of spkrs in same config and putting the 2 pairs of 16ohm series in parallel to bring back to 8ohm at amp...still not a great idea with home audio if you want good sound but I can stand corrected if someone else chimes in..my .02

Bad idea, running 2 speakers in series and their crossovers will interfere with each other. Besides the fact that you will have some comb filtering(cancellation).

So overall this is just a bad idea, and I should suck it up? The external Amp seemed like a possible solution and just use a spliteron the pre-amp signal.

No, even with an amp, you will still have comb filtering. Just use one center, it's all you need.

You wann do all this just because you think your center channel should have the same amount of drivers your main speakers have? Thats the stupidest thing I have heard in a long while.

If it really bothers you put the grills on. As long as you have the correct matching center , sound quality will not be an issue.

I think I've seen wires running from one speaker to another and then to the amp. How and where does one set of wires h/u to. Is this the bi-amp , I'm really lost here. Also I've seen giant JBLs w/ pwrd subs wired into them . Do these amps stay on all the time and to what end, shouldn't your sub be indy from your speakers. These looked as if they weighed about900lbs and only for the biggest rooms .to me if I had a room that size it would go to Klippschorns........ps , more sites against $ cables than less expensive......lw

Oh I knowI constantly rail against spending big bucks on wire, so set me up w/ a blind test, and believe me I'll tell you my honest opinion. Listen I'm a member of the Dead site and you know how wacky those guys can be. My first post wailed into that band that

if you are going to ask different questions, or not answer the thread as originally intended I would suggest making a different thread regarding the issues.

Also I have NO idea what your point is with your post. If you are going to grumble about something, etc I would suggest either A. posting it in your own thread you start, or B. Keeping it private via a PM etc as I really don't understand what your saying half the time.
