I agree up until the avatar statement but that is me, avatar was like the iphone it changed things but unlike phones where they have gotten better people have just came out with crappy movies just because they are in 3d.

Avatar was a great technical achievement and a nice bit of eye candy... but as far as the plot goes, it was Dances With Wolves meets Pocahontas meets alien Smurfs meets hippies. If you ignore all the special effects, it is really a very shallow movie that you have already seen a bazillion times. But the technological advances that Cameron made can't be denied. I just don't think it gained anything by being 3-D. And its unfortunate role as the bellweather for 3-D cinema has resulted in nothing but crap since. Worse, it has resulted in movies that are nigh unwatchable in 2-D because of all the 3-D gimmickry they pull.

Let's face the truth here: 3-D movies are shot differently than 2-D movies. When shown in 3-D, the trickery works. When shown in 2-D, it looks retarded.

Either way, I say let it die. It's an unnecessary gimmick in a time that we were still trying to get HDTV into homes. We didn't need a new standard to further confuse things.

HAH!! I've been saying this since 3D TV's first came out. I knew they wouldn't catch on.

Aside from anything else...most people simply do not want to watch TV while wearing 3D glasses. Pure and simple.

All that aside, most people don't even have HDTV's yet really. Yes, there are a lot more people with them now than there were a few years ago, but I still know PLENTY of people that are using old CRT sets...and are perfectly happy with them. My TV is a 27" CRT that was produced in the mid-90's or so...it still works great, has a great picture...and isn't going to be getting replaced anytime real soon.

I stopped by my local Sam's Club yesterday and auditioned one of the 3-D TV's. I was amazed, to say the least. Being partially color blind, I have never experienced good 3-D before. Even on an I-MAX screen. I watched some kind of orchestra in a rather large venue and the detail was incredible. It made watching regular TV rather uninteresting.

If I could afford it, I'd own it in a heartbeat. I was very impressed.

That's the way I feel. I love seeing the depth and the glasses don't really bother me (other than the price). I'd love to watch the Superbowl in 3D

Thank God. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
