Emotiva DAC

Looks can be very deceiving, Steve. But, I'll reserve full judgment until I've actually listened to it. If it sounds similar to the ERCD-1, which I have heard, it should be a decent sounding unit.

I was one of the participants in the ERC-1 Demo group. It sounds decent if 2D sound is your definition of a decent sound. I think the old Carver CD plays fairly more decent with more depth and imaging and cost me nothing (free).Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

I didn't like the EMO CD player. it was pretty sterile sounding to me, and I agree with the 2D sound.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I read the XDA-1 preview page MillerLiteScott posted. I must say it looks better build than the ERC-1 though. And the buttons layout on the front looks more decent.
May be EMO is learning a bit and getting more serious about the design. Who knows? Time will tell....Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -

Don't get me wrong, even though "it's as good as the Benchmark" I won't be trading "up" anytime soon.

That's why I said "decent". I too had an oppotunity to spend an afternoon with the ERC-1. My conclusion, which was posted in the archives, is that it has a lot of competition at it's price point and while it sounded pretty good, I'm sure a few other companies could best it at that price point or less. Said companies being in the business a lot longer, already having a great reputation, etc.
Slightly sterile and closed in come to mind, not much bass extension. Sounded like the bass note just fell off a cliff after the initial impact.

I can't say I'll be checking out this DAC, but for someone who has never used an external DAC and wanted to give it a try, this looks like a relatively cheap way to try one out, especially considering the 30 day return policy.

IIRC the CDP also incorporates a discrete opamp for the output buffer which is rarity for products at those price points.IMO the analog stage has a strong influence on the final SQ but as I alluded to previously just because it uses a discrete circuit doesn't necessarily make it the equal of a Borbely, Burson,or Bryston DOA.Nor does it automatically make it superior to a premium IC opamp like the LM4562or LME49723 etc.I was one of the participants in the ERC-1 Demo group. Fred, I agree. I think ERC-1 has good potential if they don't use too much cheap junks in there. IMO, the main thing that really hurts to the overall sound quality of the ERC-1 is really cheap junk Chinese capacitors. Otherwise, I think it has a lot of potential to become famous.
I hope EMO is learning slowly where they can cut corners and where they shouldn't cut corners....IMO, an Aluminum remote does not make it a premium product. If they could just put a good $10 plastics remote and invest better quality materials in the Analog output stages, it could be a winner.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair.
