Bill,
I was told to make sure the return shipping cost is on the label or written on the box under the RA#. That way it will be refunded also.
-Dave
Thanks for that info. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
Ok,
I've taken time to play with this now and I'll say it's not a bad unit at all for video or multi channel audio. Well worth the bucks for flicks. Exactly what I had hoped for in a DVDP.
2 channel audio is decent. I can't recommend it as a high end audio component but it's good "mid-fi" and it does play cd just fine. NO problems with disc reading or playback at all even on a lot of burnt cdr or whatever I've thrown into it. It's a bit harsh on top but I compensated with cables and it's a good sounding unit. Good enough for my limited SACD and HDCD inventory. I'm a vinyl guy first so this is "Plan C" and will be fine.
It's a keeper for MY purposes. Now just going to wait and see how long it lasts. -
From what I am reading here, I don't think I regret not ordering a Sherwood unit.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

Well......For the money....we were all looking for a steal, it was advertised great (don't believe what you read) and has a lot of features and functions.
You get what you pay for.
"Sherwood" should have been the first clue. LOL! -
I searched the web for reviews on this and could find none. I think I will pass. There has to be a reason that it is selling for $100.00.
After reading some of these reviews, you all have answered the question!!!!! HaHaHaHaHa!!!!!!!!!!! -

Sherwood was a very high end name back in the 1960's. Like other high end names like Dual and others, the names get sold and new products are sold under the old name as high end stuff, which in most cases are inferior quality. Buyer Beware!!!! -
Received mine today, looks real good and feels good weight wise.
Video seems ok, just hooked it up so no real testing yet. BUT for $100.00 bucks its a keeper.

Sounds like the drive problems are hit or miss. Mine is on its way back to MCM. Probably would have kept it if the drive worked correctly, but I didn't want to deal with getting a replacement. I'll just hold on to my C333ES as a backup for now.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

mine was purchased with video only in mind and it seems to do good at that. I'm sure better players can be had ymmvMY HT RIG:

The more I learn about mine the more I like it.
Nice and quiet, fast, plays any disc I throw at at, good laser system as I've got some messed up discs and this doesn't have any problem playing them, and it's becoming a good audio player the more I fine tune it. The HDMI sucks for audio but I've bypassed it with good cables and it's not bad sounding at all now.
Well worth the bucks IF it holds up for any length of time.
My advice is just play around with until you hit the combination for your system. "Synergy" maybe? -
UPDATE...
Mine died this morning. It locked up a few times and then went black. DEAD!
It's on it's way back now. No out of pocket cost to me.
Return shipping and full purchase price to be refunded on receipt of unit.
I can't say much for Sherwood NewCastle but MCM Electronics is "Top Notch" in customer service. I'll go out of my way to do business with them just because they stand with their customers. That's the way you make a company!!!! -
Holy crap. I just flipped mine to a buddy. I may repo that thing and send it back. I don't wanna lose a good friend. Dangit!-Kevin

Well, I got the refund for the original price, but MCM did not add the extra cost for return shipping even though I had it clearly written on the box and on the receipt inside.
HB27, DaveHo, did you guys see the refund yet? Did you get back your return shipping costs? For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
I have to say that I'm really liking mine for DVD-A. I'm still using the stock IC's and I think it sounds really good. Definitely worth $98...unless it kills over on me like many of you have experienced.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

As soon as mine was received and processed I recieved a full refund including shipping from MCM. No out of pocket cost to me.
MCM stands up for the customer. Thumbs up to them.
The Sherwood however was a disappointment. Sixteen pounds shipped should have been a clue.
Best of luck to those of you that still have one.
I haven't had much luck with DVD players lately. My Pioneer Elite died but my 10 year old cheap Toshiba is still chugging along. Lousy audio quality but it's an old workhorse I'm back to using again.
I'm looking at a used Cary at a decent price. I'm still "haggling" on it. -
I just got mine boxed & read to go back today. I've been busy as all get out lately & had trouble finding a suitable outer box to ship it in. Funny, they weren't concerned about double boxing it when they sent it to me. If they didn't refund the return shipping, I'd call them & see what they'll do for you.
