Every bit as transparent and linear as I remember. Perfect synergy with my warm Carbon 7's. As compared to the Benchmark in pre mode, bass is tighter, and volume increases are more linear.

I won't make the mistake of selling this one. Wes, with that fancy $3500 Cary amp (which is stellar)--it's time to replace that passive you have with a Placette my man; seroiusly. You got 30 days to return it--try it.

The real motivation was getting off my lazy butt to change volume--but I figured the carbon 7's could use a slight pull to the neutral side. It's working real well.

Passive preamp are fantastic, with TVC being the best. :D I just love all the passives I've owned and they way they don't screw with your music or change the over all sound of the system. Enjoy the new(old) unit!

Placette is packaging a smaller walwart now, where they use to have a power "brick" that sat on the floor---that was a minor disappointment, but not really important in the grand scheme. It's only used to power the level led's and remote receiver.

    Doc
They are the most enjoyable speaker I have owned in many, many years. Funny thing is, I was never a small speaker fan. I had Energy Connoisseur C-9's. The most notable speakers I've owned in the past were the AR 9Lsi and Infinity RS IIIb; both of those in the '80's.
