Are you mature enough for Katy Perry on "Sesame Street"?

By now, everyone knows that Sesame Street has pulled the video of Katy Perry's duet with Elmo due to Ms. Perry's, well, you know. ;):p Is this too over the top? After all, Elmo's buck naked.

Katy Perry's duet with Elmo

Personally, I have no problem with the video and I actually like the song.

Damn you, Russell Brand!

Elmo is a puppet and yes, I agree with them pulling the video. There is zero reason to have cleavage anywhere on Sesame Street. It's a show for kids and the over sexualization of EVERYTHING in this country is getting out of hand. Kids do not need to be seeing or worrying about stuff like that. Tell her to put a sweater and some jeans and sneakers on and suck it up.

    Agreed 200%.

How many little girls would've seen that and thought "well that's an appropriate way for me to dress too." Even 1 would have been too many.

Yes, it's everywhere in society these days, but as Jstas says, it doesn't HAVE to be, especially in kids shows...

I'm no prude, but we need to apply a layer of common sense/decency too...

My son saw this episode, and now I have to pay for counseling. It totally and completely warped his mind, scared him, and scarred him for life.

    /sarcasm

To each their own, but I see nothing wrong with this (nor did my son...I wasn't lying about that part). She was wearing an outfit I'm assuming THEY chose for her (tinkerbell's dress is what it looked like), and she definitely wasn't bouncing around or bending over trying to accentuate the fact that she has good-sized ****.

Express your opinion all you want but your "sarcasm" doesn't come off as sarcasm but rather as mocking those who share a different view. If you have to put a "/sarcasm" tag as a disclaimer in your post, you probably shouldn't have posted it to begin with. It's garbage like that which causes the knockdown, drag out fights.

I wish the bukt naked is the other way around among these two. It would be a good video to watch. :D

This. The song is about her dressing up in a costume or something, that's all most children would take away from it. Things like this are only sexualized because the adults perceive them as such, not to the kids.

All I know is that when my kids were little, they saw their mom's **** a hell of a lot more than I did. It didn't seem to warp them too much.

So you also close her eyes when she walks through a magazine section? If she is watching sesame street, she is probably way too young to even know what the fuss is even about. There is a lot of ways girls turn into a "****"(Which is what I guess you are worried about?), but having some healthy cleavage on sesame street is not one of them;)

You're right of course, and I apologize. Unfortunately it's too late for me to edit it out of my post.

On a more serious note: Nudity and cleavage is all about context. If your wife (assuming you have one of course) takes your daughter into the clothing store with her and your daughter sees all the billboards and signs that show women in nothing but a bra and underwear, do you worry about their mental anguish at seeing that?

I would hope not, and the reason is this - those billboards are designed to show how they look and feel, not how they "make you look sexy" (in general). It's the same (to me) as in that episode of Sesame Street; nothing about that episode had sexuality in mind. The song was innocent, she did only moderate moving so that nothing bounced around. Sure the body is a sexual thing, but I don't think it would appear that way to children after they saw this episode.

Yes, God forbid a child see a hint of a breast...the very thing they fed off of as a baby. There is nothing overtly sexual about the human body and the idea that somehow a child is going to be unduly influenced by seeing even part of a human breast is ridiculous. If they are, it's because their parents teach them that the body is something to be ashamed of. Ridiculous. People need to quit being so damned uptight about these kind of things in this country.

That's being a bit harsh. People have simply been stating their opinions on the video so far, and there's no need to call people uptight. That IS your opinion, but in this context it's more liable to start a fight than get your opinion across.

I don't see the difference. It's a short dress. She doesn't have enough **** for cleavage and they are pretty much covered. Did I see the wrong video or something???

Have any of you seen Hannah Montana or any of those shows? Those girls dress inappropriately.

Katy Perry looks like wedding Tinkerbell. I just don't see the problem, besides the fact that the song sucks with either the original or Elmo lyrics.

While some may think this is ok I for one think that the less "crap" our kids need to see on Sesame street the better. But I look at our local high school that my daughter goes to and she is dressed like a nun compared to some of the kids out there.

I fail to see how stating a fact is being harsh. Our culture teaches children that the human body is something to be ashamed of and the pulling of this video only supports this truth. I'll say it again, there is nothing overtly sexual about the human body in and of itself and a child will be even more clueless about this than an adult.
