Rotel

Well, I finally stepped up and added a Rotel RSP1066 to my RMB1075 and removed the Integra receiver being used as a processor. Several things happened, some good, some questionable.
Much better sound stage, more detail, etc.
However, the volume level seems to have to be cranked up high to get my SPL meter to reference level. i.e. volume level of 55 to record 70db, which seems like a lot of cranking of the old knob to reach only 70db....I know there is no relationship to each other, just curious. Haven't tried higher levels yet, just giving the processor time to get aquainted with its new home.
Next, the bass is BIG!...I mean really "there." I set the cross over to 80 but changed it back to the default 100 setting and there still is tons of bass. Remember reading about there being some resister problem with the 1066 causing bass management issues?? Kind of makes it difficult to pick out voices in DVD movies when there is dialogue and music.
Having said all that, this is a really nice unit and finally my LSi's are "smiling"
Next up, new HDTV, DVD player and??? How did this happen to me??
Rick

p.s. thanks for all your input guys, and Mantis, well you know.

    Rick,

Congrat's to you on your new Rotel RSP 1066!

I'm just kinda curious if you got a good deal on your new toy? I'm also from the Vancouver area but the one across the river minus the west. Here are some of the places that I have briefly checked out recently, HI FI Centre,Sunny's Electronics....etc. however is there a audio shop that you might recommend for service and price that may carry the Rotel line?. Presently I have be saving up for a quite now but haven't decided on the Rotel or Anthem separates.

Thanks, and congrat' to you again on your new toy and your Lsi's....I currently own the RTi series. You must be closer to heaven!

    Rick,

Congrats on the 1066. Nice choice man.

I just checked my calibration on my RSX 1055 just for you. I have to get to 64 / 90 on the volume to get to 70 db at my listening position about 10 feet from the speakers. So I believe 55 is reasonable if your pre-amp goes to 90 max.

As far as your crossover reseting to 100 hz, did you configure your defaults menu correctly? Factory default should be set to no. Try experimenting around in that menu to see if it retains your settings.

As far as the bass management issue, I believe it only affects SACD / DVD audio input signals. Try doing some searches on the Rotel Forum. It's in there somewhere:

    Speaker7:

To answer your questions regarding Rotel dealers in Vancouver. I could only find two dealers, HiFi Centre downtown and Westminster HiFi in Richmond. From the info I found, the guy in Richmond seems to be the easiest to deal with although I deal with GCM Electronics in North Vancouver. They don't handle Rotel but I think can special order it and they are the best in pricing around. If you decide to give them a call, ask for Dave H. and tell him I (Rick) gave you his name. I got lucky on my purchase and found a guy who bought the amp and processor last November but never used them. Bought them for a "song" The alternative is Magnolia HiFi in the Seattle area. With the rapdily falling US dollar, it might be a viable option now. Good luck, they are amazing electronics, especially for the price.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did play around with the setup and found the unit does retain the new settings....easy to use. You are right about the resistor thing, SACD & DVD-A is the issure here, which hopefully will be next for me once I buy a new DVD player, just haven't decided which way to go. Everything seems to be a comprimise....that is, with a budget. Apparently some older model 1066's had trouble decoding DTS-EX, there is a software upgrade available from Rotel. I wanted to get the new 1098 processor but ran out of patience not to mention they are twice the price of the 1066....but they look fabulous in the photos.

    Cheers,
    Rick

Thanks Rick for your feed back and your recommendations!

I will post my results later on before the end of the year if Santa Clause comes early this yr. By the way the weather is not the best today on this side of the bridge. Well, have great time with your Rotel and let the music come a live. I will have to live with the sound of pre recorded music for now before I can experience the real live sound of music.

    rickfaldo,
    You very Welome.

I wouldn't worry about the volume knob position.Rotel does there own thing there.I perfer the 0db reference point in digital but some just gotta do it there way.

What sub do yo own??I don't agree with setting the crossover that high,it makes the sub easier to find in the room.you might wanna try 60 hz.

I also don't remember you talking about wire. What did you wire it up with?
