Me? Yeah, over the weekend, I had lots of fun as an abscess in my tooth that I recently had root canal on laid me up with such excruciating pain that I thought maybe punching myself in the face would feel better? The crap part of that is, I have a wedding to attend this weekend and then Polkfest with you yahoos the weekend after that. So I may or may not be missing a toof. We'll see.

But, to add to the fun, this morning I get a call from a friend. He's in Iowa. Driving home. He's a long haul truck driver and is on his way back from a 3 week trip which took him to Missouri then to Colorado then to Missouri again then to Nebraska and he's on his way home. Well, he called me because apparently, on Monday night, his wife committed suicide. They were separated so their kid was with her. But he called me at 7:40 this morning to tell me what was up and asked me to go pick up his kid from DYFS so he can stay with my parents until he gets back tomorrow morning around 10AM.

If that ain't a kick in the jibbly bits I dunno what is. Poor kid has no idea what's going on. All he says is "Mommy's hurt." He's not even 3 years old yet. He family is all out in Western PA and his mom and sister both moved up to Minnesota to help out his grandmother so he doesn't have any immediate family in the area anymore. Man, this is a drag.

What a morning.

Heartbreaking for the poor kid; I hope your friend has a good support system in place to help cope with the loss. Hope your tooth feels better too.

Jack my vehicle up, chock it, set parking brake and get jack stands ready only to find that I need more tools. ARGH! Is there a place I can purchase a thin wall 11/16 or 13/16 socket? That's how my day has went so far. Aftermarket wheels suck.

Sears. Even if you hate them if it's all you need to complete the job, get one from them.

Hey, that's exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago. I ended up on antibiotics, vicodin, and a new dentist. Don't know about you but I couldn't even sleep at night. Got it all fixed now and I hope you do the same soon.

    Sorry about your friend.

+1 on Sears. The "Pro" is thinner than the regular Craftsman sockets IIRC but not by much.

Got a $1600 bill yesterday from a collections agency on my wife's surgery from 2008. Paid the original $600 bill but never received any bill for $1600 in the past 2 years.

Recently moved. Been busy unpacking. Need to send some books to Ron-P if I can find them.

Sears usually has what I need. They aren't Matco or Snap-on or Mac or anything like that but they are more accessible. HD and Lowes, they don't cater to a mechanic type and I've found their tools, even the "mechanics sets" lacking. But Craftsman covers everything and they stand by it all. A Sears Hardware will have a better and more thorough selection but even department stores will carry regular and thinner walled sockets in stock. They also have some other options like ratcheting wrenches and such too.

I dunno if it's savable. This was like the 3rd or 4th root canal on this tooth and it's pretty thin. Plus it has a spiral compression fracture in it from the original injury that compromises things. I did this when I was 10 or 11 and fell on a bicycle learning to do tricks like on a half-pipe. It's lasted 22-23 years. I may have no other choice. But honestly, after the abscess broke, it's been feeling better. Even after the Advil even wore off so the visit to the dentist to have a looksee on Thursday may just be antibiotics and a "wait and see" kinda deal. The only draw back to that is no drinking at the wedding this weekend and likely Polkfest as well. We'll see though.

Nope, my Sears didn't have them...either of them aside from online. The search continues.

Indeed heart breaking :( Prayers and thoughts sent for the child and his father. My day wasn't so bad but after reading this, I guess my day was great.

Hope you feel better (Jstas) and that your friend's little boy receives the love and support that IS necessary at this point. Lost my mother at the age of 4 and I can tell you--it has a profound effect on you!

Sorry to hear about your very bad few days.

I also am sucking just a bit.
Last Tuesday I was working on a job I have been to a few times doing some upgrades. In and out of the house , customer thought I was finished and was packing up , let his dogs out and low and behold I got bit right in the hand around my thumb. I went to the doctors and lost a few days work because of it. This weekend I started feeling much better and my hand is now usable to do stuff so I went back to work on Monday. Things went ok , I just took it easy with my hand. Last night I woke up in terrible pain due to bad stomach pains , intense crappy pain. Sat on the toliet for a while , had a movement , then another , then turned to runs. All at 1:15am to 4:30am. So I finally get back to sleep and wake up in mild pain. I just missed a few days so I figured I'll man up and go. Well I went to the bathroom 5 times in 3 hours and figured I have to go home. I slept for a few hours , had chicken soup and Ginger Ale , took a hot mild bubble bath and my stomach still is a mess. It's not killing me but I'm sick of using the toliet.
I figured if I still feel this bad tomorrow I'm going back to the doctors.
