Car Amplifier Concerns

I bought : mtx 2 12" subs 200 rms each i believe with amp 250 rms (Terminator package)

Problem : Amplifier seems too weak. So i have looked to buy another. This other amp i plan on buying must be good for when i upgrade subwoofers.

2 Options:
1) mtx 1000 watt mono amp with (1000 watt rms @ 2 ohms) (700Watt rms at 4 ohms)

2) kenwood 1800 watt max with cooling fans and stable to 1 ohm supossibly. (900 watt rms at 2 ohm) (500 watt rms at 4 ohm)

If i buy one of those, can i run either of them off my car battery efficiently if gain is only at 50% max>? (6 cylinder 2005 Mustang. Batt 1 year old). What if i put it to 100% (hypothetically).

Will these amps be pretty universal if i end up buying some 12" l7s (kicker) to them...or any other subwoofers?

Last...Will my 400watt rms subwoofers be safe hooked up to this amp if i never turn the amplifier past 375 watts rms? Any large risks to this thinking?

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR ANSWERS! i REALLY Appreciate it!

I think you should go with the kenwood if it is a 2ch amp the mtx is a mono so it will only run one speaker so that wont work for you, plus the kenwood has cooling fans and higher wattage output so it will work better for you when you upgrade. my best advice to you is to try and match up your subwoofer rms to your rms of your amp. You can definitely blow your subs with such a large amp but not if you dont push them beyond their limits. You will be able to tell if they start distorting. As far as your car battery goes when you start running amps over 400-500 watts you should get a capacitor, which make the bass hit lower and cleaner and your lights on your car wont dim everytime the subs hit hard. On top of all that you need to run a very thick gauge power wire preferably 0 guage or whatever you can afford but the bigger the better. Let me know if i can help you with any other questions.

    Is that Kenwood the 9104D?

If so, my cousin uses it to push 2 10" Alpine Type-R's and it sounds nice :)

Get the kicker amp. The kenwood is a hunk of junk. it has a fan because it runs hot, not because its badass. More than likely your mtx sledgehammer or whatever it is called is wire to 4 ohms and in a sealed box. so even if you get the kicker amp, you will cut the power in half putting you about 500 rms. And if there in a sealed box you'll like the extra power.

You could upgrade the battery it always helps. stay away from redtops, go with yellow top or even a megatron interstate battery. This not only going to help things run cool, but will make your bass deeper sounding. If that doesn't help then run (what i call) the cap test. If you sitting still at a stop light and your lights dimming then your prolly fine. If your doing 45 done the street and there dimming then you need to look into a solution. if you doing 80 down the highway and there dimming you have a problem! Need to have your installation checked out.

MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOUR PUT THE RIGHT SIZE WIRE IN. If an amp has 4ga input then give it 4ga. Nothing will kill an amp faster than starving it from electricty. If you dont quite understand what means then here is an analogy: How hard is it to eat a banana if im choking the crap out of you. Food for thought! LOL
