Polk LS90

Hey Everyone,
I am new to the Polk Forum. Just bought a pair of LS90s today off of Craigslist for a great price ($300...great cosmetic and working condition). Anyway, I am really new to the speaker and audio world, but I am trying to build a nice system to listen to old vinyl and CDs. I am really enjoying the hunt for great equipment so far.
Anyway, I am looking for any suggestions on what I should hookup to these bad boys to really bring them alive. Keep in mind, I am really intrigued by vintage equipment. Right now, I am looking at old Marantz receivers (2270 and into the 2300s) as well as bidding on a nice Thorens TD-145 turntable. So, I am in search of any recommendations on what equipment you all think would be great!
Thanks! Look forward to all replies

As Madmax once told me awhile back, "those thing will only get better as you move up the food chain" with regard to gear. I started with a receiver, moved to a Carver SS amp and then to a ARC Tube amp. They just keep impressing.
Placement is something I still fiddle with. I like mine away from the walls.-Kevin

Hey Kevin,
Thanks for the suggestions! I am really stoked to pick these speakers up today.
I hadn't even considered a Carver. I would love a great tube amp (such a warm and soulful tone...same reason I bought a tube amp for my guitar), but I really just don't have the cash right now unfortunately. But, it's in the dream category at the moment for the future. -
Welcome to the Club (Polk) btw... Be sure to post your impressions!-Kevin

Just got back to the house with new speakers! And, I have to say...WOW. They were even better than expected. I got a chance to give them a test drive at the sellers house. They sounded great even though he had a standard Yamaha receiver that was only pushing 60 wpc. Still a great overall sound (clear highs and a good punch on the lows).
I can't wait to get a good receiver/amp that will make these bad boys sing! Still open to any and all suggestions...
I will be posting pictures soon... -
Congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the LS90 club. I've yet to feel the upgrade urge after owning these speakers for 10 years. The more clean power you can provide these speakers the more you will be rewarded with prodigious bass and clean highs.

Congrats of your LS90's, and welcome to the club:) I bought some used ones about 4 months ago and use them as side surround speakers, they handle everything I can throw at them on Bluray.Moved the LS50's I had been using as side surrounds to do back surround duty. Let us know what you end up driving those bad boys with:)

Up 2 a couple years ago I had a onkyo 939 which was onkyo's best at the time. That fried a couple years ago and I bought a onkyo 805. I couldnt believe the tremendous difference that made. Speakers came alive from what they were before. Couldnt believe a avr that cost a 1/3 of the price sounded better.
But the upgrade bug just got me and now I'm not sure if I will sell the polk system or put it somewhere else.....Klipsch RF7-II

So, I realize this is late, but it's been a fun couple of weeks bidding on ebay for different items to hook up to the LS90s. But, I came away with a Marantz 2270 receiver and a Thorens TD166 mkii turntable. The turntable just got here yesterday, and it's in mint condition, everything works, and it's beautiful. The receiver is supposed to come in today, so tonight should be fun finally hooking Polks up and letting them ride!
I will post pictures and let you know how it goes! -
I want a pair of LS90's. I wanna join the club.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
SonHouse! Great name, lol. Let's see some pics of those LS90's! Hey Mantis, keep your eyes and ears open here on CP Flea Market or A-gon,CL, fleabay etc... People get the upgrade bug and sell their used LS90's occasionally. Some folks have even found them at Goodwill stores and got them for next to nothing. They really are a great speaker, good luck with the search.
