Have seen a couple ads on cl for these guys, not in the market for speakers right now, but never having heard of these guys, coupled with some rave reviews from years past intrigued me. any experience or knowledg would be interesting.

By the way, apparently they went under and are in the process of being bailed out.

Just intrigued by a name i had not heard.thanks

    M&K made nothing extraordinary.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Really? Differing ears I guess.....The ones I heard I was impressed with. Always thought there subs were awesome as well. Well the ones I listened to in the 90's anyways.

I currently run the MK851's and like them a lot. They really did make nice speakers I think, but then they started making them in China (I am pretty sure mine were made there too) and low and behold knock offs started showing up. This along with some other issues took them down. One of the european distributors bought the IP and they are back in business. Have no clue if they are any good though.

I still like mine but am in an apartment so my sub is boxed up. I doubt I'd buy any more though. If I found some of the S-150s with made in the USA stickers, I'd be very tempted.

M & K when they first hit the market made an extraordinary sub/sat system. I remember them from the early 80's when hardly anyone was doing sub/sat systems. Those that were doing it were awful. Early M&K's always impressed me for what they were and I sold a lot of them. By today's standard they are simply ordinary. Not one of the things I'd use for today's HT, but if the price is right and they haven't been neglected worth a listen.

    YMMV

That wont reach anywhere close to 20Hz at an audible level. I'd bet the +/- 3dB response is in the 30's Hz range.

I'll have to agree with H9, the old V2-B units I have probably won't dig down to 20hz, (they are a sealed design), but I will give them credit for sounding nice on music. Also, I believe M&K were the pioneers of the subwoofer design, everyone else jumped on board later???

Yes they were! and as a proud owner of a made in the USA MX-150 THX sub, it has been around since 1999 and is still delivering deep wall rattling bass and still has some of the best pitch defintion from a sub I've heard to date. This bad boy with its daul 12''s in a push pull sealed box with one of the 12's back open too the floor with a slot at the bottom of the box was said to increase output by 6db without tripling amp power and canceling distortion and will play down to 20hz, Now that's what I call a well designed Box! Yup still in love ! but still wish I had sprung for the MX-350.(lol).:D

Ill take your word for it, I have no way of actually measuring that, I was just going off of the manufacturers website data.

M&K made incredible theater speakers. I was very impressed the first time I heard their package go. Sub dig deep , clarity and depth with tons of dynamic's.

Anyone considering a serious theater should look into their stuff. I have not heard the new MK stuff but I'm willing to bet it's amazing.

Just wanted to throw this info out there, maybe someone may be able to add some credibility to it. In my search a couple of years ago at used M&K speakers(not the sub line), I came across a warning going around that there were some cheap fake knockoffs(i guess with the M&K logo???) going around on the internet,CL etc...

I too remember the early sub-sat systems they sold. I haven't heard them in more than 20 years, so hard to compare my ears then and now, but I recall being very impressed by the clarity and sound-stage.

I had one of their first subs, which looked like a pyramid (the top was smaller than the bottom). Made out of real wood, really heavy, nice build. The amp was nothing special, but that thing was from early 80s!

Like I said, they were the innovators of the subwoofer design, they basically changed audio systems around the world.

True. Killed them to the point where they went bankrupt. The name was sold and new M&K stuff is related to old in name only (although I read somewhere that they were contemplating bringing back old designs).

New M&K stuff is not the same. Don't have any idea if it's good or bad, but not made by the same people anymore.

Sorry, but you give them far more credit than they deserve.
