Went to wally world with dad the other night and he bagged this sucker while we there for 40 bucks minus the remote as it had been a display unit. As we were driving back to his house he looks at me and says" You know, you have more use for that thing than I will ever get out of it so why don't you just take it on home with you". So I guess that I am now the owner of a progressive scan player. Does anyone know if there is anyway for it to play full screen and not widescreen as I just have a regular 46 inch bigscreen, but I am hoping to get a widescreen by next spring so should I just keep it or take it back? I think that there was a panasonic display for about the same price but may already be gone by now.

I have really been impressed with the picture and the sound, not to mention it puts my boys playstation 2 to shame when it comes to dvd playback. I honestly did not think that my h.t. would ever sound as good as it does with this thing, the dialoge has never ever been so good and the front sound stage seems to be seamlesss. So, what would you do? Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Mike

Dude for 40 bucks keep the damn thing.

There is no way to display on a 46 inch 4:3 tv correctly. You can set the player up however for that display. The movies that you watch dictate the ratio.

When you step up to a widescreen Tv,it will still have black bars from time to time as It can display all aspect ratios correct but by losing some of the screen/black bars/Resolution.

It's the nature of the beast as of now,no way to get around it unless you buy a front projector with a masking system screen.

In a couple of years all these ratios are suppost to go away.Everything should go 16:9 as a standard, but who really knows with renagade directors........maybe we will have some new screen sizes.......like there isn't enough already

Well I have decided to keep it, I have since discovered that it will play in the full screen format the only problem is that I do not have the remote so on some discs I can not chose for the option for full screen nor can I mess around with any of the other options. I am hoping that one will turn up on ebay, wonder if one of the better universal remotes would let me operate all the functions?

It is the dvd 724 progressive scan by phillips. I have went to the web site and downloaded a copy of the owners manual and was unable to find anything about replacment items like remotes.

i own the 724. I got it because it's easy to make it play all dvd regions. Let me know if you notice it pausing a lot with newer movies like Die Another Day etc.

I had noticed ( before the pioneer died) that it was skipping alot on c.d.'s that I had burned off of the p.c., not sure what the deal is there.
