IeSpell . . . I love it!

For over four years now I've been using Microsoft Word to spell check my posts. It involved typing the post, copying and pasting into a blank Word document fixing the spelling error then copy and paste back into the forum text box. Sometimes I would forget and start going nuts trying to edit my posts before the 20 minute time limit expired.

Well I finally downloaded the IeSpell from the "ABC √" located in upper right hand corner of the each text box a month or two ago and I'm loving it.

It's so easy to use and customize and I don't have to keep switching applications.

If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it.:)

Now if I can only find a grammer checker!:D

I haven't used IE in quite a while, but I'm amazed that it doesn't have built-in spell checking. I use SeaMonkey most of the time and I always get the red underline on mis-spelled words, and right-click support for fixing mistakes.

Thanks for the tip. I sometimes do the same Word/paste dance just to make sure the spelling is correct. However, I ran the install program and the ABC check still tells me to download ieSpell.

Oh, I see what is happening. IE is preventing it from running. I wish they did a better job of alerting the user there is an issue, other than some text in a tiny bar at the top.

Whoa whoa whoa. YOu're telling me IE doesn't have built-in spellcheck?!! I hate being that guy, but seriously, Firefox has had spell check built in for several YEARS.

I always wondered how some of you could continue to be so horrible at spelling even when your browser underlines all the misspelled words for you. At least now I know it's because you use horrible browsers.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Yep and if you don't have your speakers on and hear the bleep in most cases you don't even see that skinny little line of text asking you to allow it.

One BF that they don't tell you is; once it is installed, to use it you type your text and then click from the menu bar, "Tools" then select IeSpell and it checks your test.

Another thing I found helpful is that if I quote someone or like in this case two people, I don't want to spell check their posts so you just highlight your text and when it is finished checking it will ask you if you want to check the unselected text . . . of course my answer is always, NO!;)

By the way, the one you're using must suck pretty bad...

I just use Google for spell check. Open a new tab, and start the word.
I never noticed the spell check tab on the forum?

what internet browser do you use?

If you use Google chrome or Mozilla Firefox, its built in. So if the word is misspelled, it will underline it in red.

Well, I installed it, and now for some reason when I use the browser back button it does not work. This does not happen on all threads, but so far this thread and the tennis fight thread will not let the browser go back. It must be ieSpell's fault since I have never had this issue before. Gotta love technology.

Also, I did not realize 'gotta' was a real word. ieSpell likes it. Looked it up on dictionary.com, and dang, it has 2 definitions.

I never use to use the ignore feature until the past six months. I found myself getting heartburn from reading certain posters.:D Now my list is getting long and I don't have to take Tums or baking soda & water anymore.;)

Anyhow you can click "View This Post" anytime you want to peek at what someone on the IL has written. Really though I mainly use it now because I don't get an email notification that someone on my bozo list has replied to a thread I'm subscribed to.

You do make a good point BF in that one can learn something even from a jackass not to mention the entertainment value of some bozo listed posters.

I hear you Joe! Considering the number of YEARS I've been writing--you'd think I'd spell better. But a look at my posts on this site will prove otherwise....partly--I'm still a mediocre typist...and partly--my progressive lens glasses don't let me see this 'small' type as well as I should?

Put the two together and you will notice that a LOT of my posts are "EDITED"--no reason. Well the reason is my spelling. I write the post then I LOOK at it and realize I screwed up, so I go back and fix it--and even then I'm not perfect? When I write professionally I use WORD and that helps but technical terms need to be input constantly and even then things usually need a VISUAL inspection that involves ME reading them 3 or 4 times?

Plus, I don't mind missing a word or two or looking a bit silly on this site--doesn't affect my career any and I figure that all of you will 'forgive' me my bad typing and vision?

    Am I right?

First I have to address the bolded sentence or fragment thereof :D A few years back I got a really nice pair of rimless progressive glasses. For a friggin month I was walking around bumping into things, skipping steps and almost breaking my neck and feeling nauseous. I tried them another two weeks and still couldn't get use to them. When I ask the eye doctor about it, he said it takes most people less than a day or two to get use to them. Turns out because of my ear problem my equilibrium is off and my body adjusted to it but then with the glasses on it screwed up the adjustment my body made and turned it into vertigo . . . how about that!!!

To answer your question . . . YEP!

The other thing I wanted to tell you was that for many, many years during my career one of my natural abilities and job duties was as a technical writer. So spelling, styles, grammar, vast vocabulary etc were second nature to me. Since I've been disabled it's like someone lobotomized me in my sleep a while back and can't spell for crap or even write properly anymore.

OH I know what it is; it's the old man natural lobotomy! LOL!!!;)

NOTE; this post has been heavily IeSpelled!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!:D

Progressive lenses are good in theory, but they fall a bit short in practice. The only way to solve it is to get a seperate pair of reading glasses.

But I love that I can increase the font size on my pc & on my Sony reader!:)
