Well I have owned all the models now and they keep getting better and better. The new camera is mainly why I wanted the upgrade.
The pic's are cleaner and sharper. I think this could replace a stand alone camera for trips and such. I take pic's when I ride and sometimes shoot a short movie. This thing takes much better videos then the 3gs.
The display is deeply clear and has a Kuro like black to it. very nice detail. The Phone works the same as a phone , signal strength works just as good if not a little better then the 3gs. Clarity is about the same for voice but the face time is absolutely Star Trek Killer. I love that to death. I have always wanted that and now I got it. So damn cool!!!! I hope they get it to work over 3g soon as just wifi kinda stinks. But I'm sure they will figure it out.
Aps look clearer , pic's are just simply so much better even shot taken with the 3gs and transferred over look great.
Overall I say Apple did a fine job with tweaking this model. It got all the right upgrades.

I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Sweet. I have been considering upgrading mine.

Yeah, the faster processor and FaceTime did it for me. It's a really nice piece of hardware.-Kevin

I LOVE the iPhone 4 (especially after upgrading from the 3G, which was becoming a dog), but I haven't been all that impressed with the camera. Maybe my expectations were just a bit too high.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

so far I am enjoying my iphone 4. it's my first ever smartphone.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

My wife has the iPhone 4 (also upgraded from the 3G) and it's a great phone.
I love the guys at work who love to bash on Apple all day long, and then went out and all bought iPhone 4s. They'll sit there and **** about Apple's business practices all day, while at the same time having supported those business decision by giving them their money.
I did this for a while as well, owning a 3GS, so I can't really say much. Calling their actions hypocritical while not also including myself in that groupd would in itself be...hypocritical.
I will say though that now that we have viable alternatives to the iPhone out there it's nice. As soon a true competitor came along in the Samsung Captivate (Android) I immediately jumped ship. There are still things that the iPhone is better at (mainly app selection) but overall I prefer the Android experience greatly over the iPhone.
All that being said, I'll still bookend this post by saying that the iPhone 4 is a great device and is really the better choice for most people out there. -
I hear ya Assimilated. I am glad the iPhone has some competition as it will raise the bar.
Having said that, I don't have any desire to become a "droid geek". I don't want to manage background apps that kill my battery, etc... I just want the damn thing to work.
iPhone does that.-Kevin

Facetime works on 3G if you jailbreak your device. It's not that they can't do it, it's that they enjoy limiting you so they can sell the feature to you later (or keep you hooked on apple when they so generously give it away later on).
I did not upgrade my 3gs. The antenna issue, and the arrogance of apple to reply to it in the way they did ("it's not a design flaw, just hold the phone differently"), as well as bluetooth and lcd sensor issues have kept me from buying this one. There are already rumors about an iPhone 5, and the White 4 hasn't even come out. This clearly shows they know they've screwed up.
One more thing that kept me from it was their videos prior to release. Some dude talking about how Facetime is such a 'revolution' (like everything apple releases ) even when users were doing it with Skype on a jailbroken 3g years prior. As well as the glass video, and them showing how much you can bend it... as if the glass is ever bent... how about how many times I can hit it with a hammer?
I don't like the limitations Apple puts on ALL of their products in the name of control and simplicity, but jailbreaking fixes that. I would be inclined to "shop around", however, no one else seems to have gotten that we don't want our phones, mp3 players, computers, ect to have various dips and corners cut on the casing. A flat bottom, top and sides will do. -

iPhone does that.
I have no desire to turn this into another iphone vs droid debate, but that is simply not true. Yes, you can get an app that increases your battery life by 'killing' running background apps (which can also be set to auto so you never have to touch it), but one of my best friends has an iphone 4 and the battery in my phone works every bit as long as his does...even if I never kill a single app (and I dont leave mine set to auto...its a control thing...haha)
And if I use it really heavily one day or not have access to a charger for a couple days, I can put in my extra fully charged battery. I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't make an app for that;)

Unless the image processor is significantly better...more megapixels isn't necessarily better. In fact, in many cases, bumping up the number of megapixels can make image quality worse.
Megapixels can only take you so far when you're using tiny image processors and lenses. I don't think anyone should expect very much from a cell phone camera. Increasing megapixels is usually marketing fluff IMO.My System Showcase!

They supposedly increased the quality of the lens, added a flash, etc, not just "upped the megapixels." It's definitely MUCH better in perfect light conditions, but in anything other than optimal (anything in motion, or non-perfect light) it still kinda sucks. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Well thats the case for a lot of point and shoot cameras too. Performance in less than ideal lighting conditions is what separates good cameras from the bad.
To avoid motion blur and image (ISO) noise, it takes a fast (wide aperture) lens and/or a fast shutter speed. It's a physical limitation that cell phone cameras will never be able to overcome. To perform well in low light and/or anything with motion, you need to capture more light with a larger lens.
Its the same thing as trying to play 18hz test tones on an HTiB subMy System Showcase!

I also agree that competition is good. Android phones are cool and do some cool stuff. I don't see myself switching anytime soon. A co worker has one with the sliding keyboard and as cool as his phone is , I prefer the iphone as it's layout and ease of use it light years ahead of the droid.
On another note I have a short update review of the Iphone 4.
1) The battery- It does last longer then the 3gs but not by a lot. I can get 2 days out of it if I don't play with the phone or use it a lot. If I use it normally(which I use it a lot in a course of a day) the next day I'm down to about 30% life left on the battery. So real time life is about a day and 1/2. Thats pretty damn good and it perfect for me as I charge my phone at night into the morning.
2) The screen- I still have my 3gs and they really improved the screen. It's Kuro like. The black level is where the detail comes from. Blacks are black not dark grey like the 3gs.
3)Apps- I noticed many apps run faster and cleaner but I found one app to run actually slower. The graphics's look better but I noticed that the 3gs run this app better.
4) The actual Phone part- with all the talk about the antenna , I have tried to have it happen to me and it actually is a better phone then the 3gs. I have had less dropped calls which for At&t is a blessing. I text and email more then the use the phone.
5)Fit and finish- as any Apple product it's not notch. I like the new shape and the weight of the phone seems balanced. I like the volume up and volume down buttons over the bar type on the 3gs.
6) Free case- now this is cool. You down load the app , pick the case you want and they send it to yeah free including shipping. Now that rules.
In my field we use the Ipad as a controller and it rules. but the Ipod touch and phone are close runner ups. You have your house controller right in your pocket at all times. Companies like Sonos have apps now and they are free. I'm in the middle of a huge Savant job and having Wifi control over the entire house in my pocket is bad ****. Like I said the Ipads are bitchin cool but you don't wanna carry it around with you all the time. They are nice in the wall and in theater rooms even in the kitchen on a dock but the itouch/phone are with you.Dan

They sent a free case because of a design flaw. And I ordered mine the DAY the app was released, and still haven't even gotten a shipping notification, let alone the actual case.
So they can take their "free case program" and stuff it where teh sun don't shine.
I had a 3G, and I love my iPhone 4, but I gotta say Apple's quality is going DOWN fast. I don't know if it's just the rush to try and beat Google and HTC with the Android stuff, or what, but every new release they put out is more buggy than the last. This last piece of crap iTunes update really takes teh friggin cake for buggy garbage. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I installed IOS 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 and my 3GS started to drop calls, sluggish, and echo during calls. I am waiting for the next OS upgrade, hopefully it resolves.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

It would be interesting to see a full comparison of the iPhone and the Android phones. There's a bunch of little things that I actually like that never get brought up in that conversation.
One of my favorites is that with the Android phones you can plug them in and use them like any other drive in Windows Explorer, meaning you can easily copy to and from the phone ANYTHING you want, you don't have to go through an iTunes interface. If you do prefer an 'iTunes like' approach then you can do so, as DoubleTwist ties right into your iTunes libraries and syncs with your phone.
So we just bought my wife a new laptop, and I want to sync her iPhone up with it, I just wanna copy her music and videos down from her iPhone to that computer to start off her library and then she can buy stuff and continue to add to it and sync going forward. I could copy the media files from her old computer, but it's just easier to copy them from the phone. But of course I can't, so now I've either got to go find some special software that may work, or hook her old computer back up and copy the files manually. It's not a huge deal, it's just kinda dumb to have to do, ya know? -
There used to be an option in iTunes on old iPods to "use this iPod as a disk." Then it would show up as a normal disk, and you could do exactly what you wanted. Plugging in my iPhone, I don't see that option, which is not exactly surprising. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
