Enough power? Monitor 70's/CS2 & Pioneer 1120

I ordered a Pioneer 1120 and have Monitor 70's/CS2 center with a HK sub and rears. I was wondering if anyone else has this combo and if the Pioneer would give the L/C/R speakers enough power? I understand that these Polks really open up when powered properly.

I was thinking about getting a Emotiva 3 or 5 channel amp to boost it up a bit.

Necessary?

I know I will have a better idea when I finally get the 1120 hooked up, but was curious.

I don't believe you have any problem in regards to power but once you folks get your mind set, there's usually no turning back. It's a 90+db efficient speaker. Don't confuse more power with dedicated power.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

yes, that is true. I may find that it is plenty of power but it is fun to shop!

Just got my 1120 - it is quite an improvement over my HK 135. Really great sound and the Monitor 70's sound great! If I can find a $200 amp i'll give that a try too....

One other thing is that now I am needing to replace my crappy 2 rears and side surrounds. I need something that I can mount in the back corner & along the ceiling edge of the room as our sectional is up against the back wall. Optimally I need to be able to point the speakers in a downward angle.

What would match my current setup and still give me great results?

    I've got a 1120 that powers Monitor 70's, 60's and a CS2. Works just fine.

Polk's OWM3s would fit that bill nicely if you have space constraints up there....also look at the OWM5s if you can fit a slightly larger speaker up high?

    and WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!

Polk's new Blackstone TL series would make a nice match for surround speakers, when they become available, which they may be? If you want something a little bigger, the Monitor 30's are easily wall mountable and would match your other speakers perfectly.
As far as the amp goes, look into the used market, try a few out and let your own ears decide. The nice thing about used amps is you can usually get your money back if you're not satisfied. And if you end up liking the Emo, then you came to that decision on your own. I would definately play the field for a while first though . .

Welcome to Club Polk. I completely disagree with what Knucklehead says. I feel that he is just voicing some unfounded anti-Emotiva sentiiment that happens here from time to time.

I'm running the same front stage and receiver, with Emotiva ERD-1's for 5.1 surround... And loving it!

However, like you, I'm also looking at amps to really push these speakers to their full potential. If I can find a used Emotiva XPA-5 for under $550, I'll be all over it.

I already love the Polks without an amp, so I know I'll be in HT heaven once I grab an amp. :)

    Welcome Drew.

The XPA 3 or 5 will definitely power all of your speakers to thier full potential just fine if that is the direction you want to go.
