Here is the problem I encountered with the XO.

Notice in this pic the 2 ohm 55 25w reisistor?

I did not know what to do  I decided to take it out of line, but I have the following questions:

    1)what was it?
    2)what was it for?
3)why didn't anyone else encounter this?

Anyways all, I enjoyed these builds so much. But my next question:

1)does this mean I can now call this club my home too...?
2)do I still hold the title of resident NewB? LOL

That's strange Matt. My 3.1 TL's didn't have that resistor either. Never seen that before? Maybe Jesse or Ricardo can answer your questions.

    Greg

Edit: You did a nice job on the caps on the crossovers.

What was the value of the smaller (5 watt) resistor? If it was also 2.5 ohms then they may have been paralleled to get the required 1.25 ohms?

Nice job. Don't worry about the extra resistor.

So how does it sound now??

Oh My! I cant believe them, I mean how incredible the difference these mods have made! I am about 10 hours in on the burn. Already see a definite improvement in EVERYTHING! vocals, imaging, sonics, tighter bass and I would also say there is a significant larger soundfield as well. I just listened to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours". It was incredible, the best I have ever heard it. :p

For anyone who is pondering doing any of these mods... The difference IS NOT subtle. I do however realize that doing the combined such mods all at once
probabally is not as fun as doing them one at a time. But for me, comparing the before and after the mods is indescribable! It is strange that as you all say: "it gets better after the burn in"
This was truly an wise and fun investment. :)

Thanks again to ALL who made this happen!

    Thanks Greg,

    It sure was fun! :D
Edit: I wrote that it was a 2ohm 55 25w resistor instead it should have read:
    2ohm 5%25w
    it was a typo....
My 3.1's were constructed in 1990, would that have mattered?

    Hey all,

I bought some really nice wire the other day. See 12th post
    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107084

Today I went back to the store and:
    1) purchased some AQ bananas. Tinned all leads, shrink wrapped, vinyl y-jackets -the whole 9 yards! Note: I just tinned the ends on the speaker ends. (NO bananas, just wire)

    2) Went to electronics store and purchased some fader lube like this:
    http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.293/.f
and lubed up my carver tfm35's adjustable gain. works like a charm now!

    3) also replaced the meter lamps in the in carver tfm35 as well.

4)also purchased some cleaner like this:
    http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.188/.f
and cleaned the both amps binders

5)took both amps and literally blew all the dirt and dust out  ...LOL

After all the mods, wire, and prep work, the system sounds amazing! Im not sure Ive ever heard it sound this good, EVER! Larger sound stage. pinpoint imaging, tighter bass. Mids and highs are breath taking now. It actuall sounds amazing. AND you guys say it will get even better?
Ive always had decent cables (XLO) so I think im good for now.
Perhaps another reciever in the not so near future. :( LOL :o I would like to add this to my wish list. This would be my pre amp! It has all the bells and whistles I both want and need to move up into the HD age. Look!

OK back to what I have now, perhaps I should treat all RCA connections left with the cleaner now?

Anyways thanks to all who have helped me achieve my system's greater potential. And also to awaken one of my favorite passions. (MUSIC!) You guys are all really tops in my book!

    regards,
