I just got back from a day of sailing and read the Mofi email. Of course, Danny beat me to the punch. :)

I ordered Texas Flood. I am loving these SACD releases, my wallet... not so much. I really SHOULD be buying new tires for my old ragged out Jetta. Instead it's been tubes and SACD's lately.

I ordered "In Step" - already have that one on CD.

So, I'm going to do a direct comparison for myself.

Wow. It's hard to believe SRV has been gone 20 years (8-27-90). I'll never forget the first time I saw him...the Austin City Limits performance of "In Step" in 1989. I was blown away and went out the next day a bought that CD. I have been a huge fan ever since. Tragically he was killed just a few months later. It seems like only yesterday. I was hoping to see him live in concert...but that never happened. I have the his entire non "best of" catalog including "Couldn't Stand the Weather" and "Texas Flood" on SACD. "In Step" is a great redbook recording...so I'm not sure if I'll pick it up or not...and I will have to think about the others.

Stevie Ray Vaughn left us way too soon.

PBS had a tribute to SRV, where many of the great rock and blues guitarists spoke of their experiences with the man and the music. BB King, Clapton, Mack...they all had the same thing to say, which was basically that they had standard riffs of their own invention in their heads, their libraries. Vaughn adlibbed more than any of them-they admired and were amazed by his playing. He didn't stop, he found new connections.

Supposedly, the Beach Boys' "Today" is coming on SACD from MoFi. The title was mentioned in one of those "coming soon" ads placed within a recent release.

He sure did! What a talented guy!!! He couldn't read a lick of music and he said when he played the music came from his gut. Now that is awesome in my eyes.

Steve, in reference of you already owning a catalog I received the SACD of Texas Flood as a Christmas present from Jesse a couple back and loved it so much I went out and bought the heavy vinyl version too. I notice that depending on my mood when I want to hear Stevie Ray I play one or the other as they do sound different, not one better than the other, just different and I'm glad I have both. Just saying . . .

Ya know I want to hear someone say again that SACD is dead with all this great music being put out!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Nail on the head, my friend. I remember my mom was driving me to the record store when I heard the news on the radio; I was floored. My aunt had taken me to see him and Jeff beck pretty recently as my first concert. Had 2 beers on the way in (maybe first beers, too) and I fell asleep during Beck, only time I woke up was when Terry Bozio did his drum solo. SRV was, of course, incredible.

I'll start with the first release and go from there. Lenny has gotta have the best guitar tone ever, IMO.

Big time "thank you" again Danny. I wonder why a search of "Pretenders" didn't turn anything up. I even looked at all of the "upcoming" stuff.

I have mourned many a musician's death in my day (not the least of which was James Honeyman-Scott of The Pretenders) but I have shed tears over a couple. One of course was John Lennon, the other was SRV. I'll never forget where I was, who I was with and how it felt to learn of those tragedies. Long live their music and memories. May their souls rest in peace.

It depends on what is your fave? Like for me, my 2 faves that hit home are Texas flood and couldn't stand the weather. Besides amazing music, they just bring me back to some happy places from my past. For me, besides just listening to great music, a song or artist can almost transport me back to a certain time of my life or just floods of memories come rushing back. Those 2 LP's do that to me out of all of his. I love all of his music but those are the 2 that will transport me back and no matter what I am doing, I just sit down and can't get up till they are over.
