LSi help

Tweeters on both LSi-15 speakers did not work. Swapped tweeter from tower speakers to center channel and confirmed that it is not an issue with either tweeter as they work when connected to the center channel. Any thoughts around likely issues I am running into? Any potential solutions that I could try at home? Not interested in packaging and shipping to West Coast to have serviced. Any help is appreciated.

Check the jumpers on the binding posts of your speakers. Maybe they're not making contact or maybe they're not there at all

^ Jumpers came to my mind too. Did you just get them used? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if the jumpers aren't there.

+1 to the above. The chance that both crossovers are shot seems slim, and since both tweeters were proven to work I'd say the jumpers are not in place. There should be a metal (brass) jumper that goes between the upper and lower binding posts on the back of the speakers. If that is not present, you will get only upper or lower frequencies. You could try moving the speaker connections from the lower to the upper posts to rule out a binding post issue.

I have owned the speakers since they were new. Brass jumper is present for both. Followed tcrossma's suggestions to switch between upper and lower posts. Midrange drivers work fine. Still nothing out of the tweeters...

Did they ever work? Your original post made it sound like you received them in this condition. If they once worked, did something occur that you left out of your post?

BTW, welcome to Club Polk! :)

Yes they did. I bought the speakers new and they worked. All tweeters and midrange drivers work for rear and center channel today. I've had them offline for two years now trying to fix them. Can't recall if they went dark after any particular event. Its not a speaker problem. Any other thoughts? Thank you everyone.

Open them up and take a look at the resistors. There is one in the high frequency circuit that is prone to cooking.

Awesome. Now I'm in over my head. What does a "cooked" resistor look like? Any thoughts on why it might have cooked? Is that a function of running speakers too high for too long?

The original resistors are the block type, which will be white/off white. Depending on how badly they have cooked they may be black/burnt looking or just slightly discolored.

The original resistors are rated at 5 watts, which in some cases doesn't seem to be a high enough value. I would replace them with a higher watt value.

Yes and no...running them too high for too long from a receiver ? Yeah, could be. Maybe alittle background sport on what gear you were driving them with and what your idea is of too loud would help. Sorry to hear of your problems but without some background, it's kinda hard to tell what happened.
