I haven't had it very long (maybe a year and a half), but I'm pondering selling my Dell desktop and need help with the value. It's still a very fast machine.

Dell XPS 630 Workstation
Intel Core2 E8400 (3.0 GHz, 1333FSB), dual core, 6MB cache
8GB DDR2 @ 800MHz (4x2GB)
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT
Dell 2407WFP Ultrasharp 24" display
500GB SATA 7200rpm HDD, 16MB cache
48x Combo CD drive
16x DVD+/-RW drive
Windows 7 pre-loaded w/ retail disc/package included
Keyboard, mouse, etc.

I know I'm going to lose money on it. But the question is, how much.

Thanks.

I would think $400-$600 on ebay without the monitor of course I dont know crap about PC's or PC prices :p

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

With the monitor I'd say 600-700 price range. That would be guessing on the hi-end cause of the 24" monitor though. What you planning to get next? Going iMac?

Edit: Homework done, here are prices from Dell with similar specs. Consider used in there also and I'm pretty close

That outlet link really helped. Thanks. Though, more of a hit than I think I want to take.

No, not going Mac. Just wanting to go more mobile.

No problem bro. I can certainly understand not wanting to lose out on the sell. Computers decline in value the day you buy, similar to new cars. The industry changes so rapidly it's scary.

Maybe I'll just pick up a relatively cheap laptop to supplement the desktop then.

In my 20+ years dealing with computers I would say realistically that you might get 10 - 20 percent of what you paid for it unless you happen to find someone who's looking for exactly what you have.

Case in point I put together a gaming rig last july with the following parts which cost around $2800.00 (i think maybe more) and if i was to sell it today for $500 i would consider myself lucky.

    Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
    EVGA 01G-P3-1180-AR GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Video Card
    CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
    2 CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory
    LITE-ON 24X CD/DVD-DL Burner Black SATA
    ZALMAN CNPS9900LED 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit w/ Tech Guarantee Includes free Windows 7 upgrade coupon
Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
    2 Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Lian Li PC- 60FB Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Lian Li BZ-U01 5.25" Bazel w/ USB 1394 ESATA Power Switch
    2 ViewSonic VP2250wb Monitors
    Keyboard
    Mouse

So i tell people who ask me "What's my PC worth" that it's not worth the trouble trying to sell it and your better off using it till it dies that's the only way your going to get your money's worth out of it.

$600 or so I'd assume. You might get more if you part it up.
