Hello all,

One of my RT3000p speakers is buzzing. I thought it might just be feedback from an audio component so I decided to unplug everything from it. The buzzing is still there with only the power cable hooked up to it. Has anyone had this happen before? What would cause an amp to do this and how can it be fixed? I have soldering experience and don't mind getting zapped. again..... :o

Welcome to CP. Good luck with your repair. I just bought a replacement amp from Polk when it happened to me so I will watch to see how you repair goes for a spare. "dpowell" had one repaired so he may be a good source of info if you are near CA. If you buy new, be sure to mention you are a member of the forum.

So I took the amp out and saw that some black stuff had leaked out and hardened near the rca connections on the crossover board. The rest of the board looks fine, and the board located below that i'm assuming is the one for the amp looks to be in great shape. Has anyone replaced this board before? Will Polk sell me the crossover board by itself? If so, how much did you have to pay?

    *update* (if anyone cares...)

I called Polk support and ordered two new crossover boards. I'd like to echo all comments about Polk support, they are very friendly and attentive. I should be getting the new boards in about a week, will let everyone know how it goes. Hopefully this can be of use to someone.

Darn! Guess I wasn't on the same page with Polk support. I was sent the crossover units for the satellite speakers. Called support again today only to find that they do not have any sub assemblies left. Gonna pack both amp units up and send to Polk for evaluation. Hopefully they can repair these boards.

    cincycat13,

Have you checked to see if you are having a ground loop problem? I bought a $5 piece that pretty much turned the three prong plug into a two prong. Didn't work for me but I guess it's worth a try for you.

    lbp775,

I picked up the RT5000p set for a project price. I was fortunate that Polk still had amps last December so I just replaced it. One would buzz and one would not in the same outlet. Also, I had the older version of amp (light would go off in standby when no signal was present) which were more prone to interference so it was also an upgrade.

Can you PM me the cost of the satellite crossovers? thanks...
