Well first off this is going to be a bit slow. I found this car fram a friend of mine. I came over his house and just noticed it sitting there. After talking to him about it I bought it for 500. It is a 1994 Mercury Capri non turbo automatic.

My plans:
Clean it up to running condition
Wheels and Tires
Audio System "Still Taking Ideas"

Next year:
Engine swap and trans swap 2.0L
Auto to manual swap
Repaint
Custom seats

Objective: To have a fun little car for corners and weekend drives, also just something to toy with.

I wanted to check out the paint so I really cleaned a small area than waxed it. Came up well. After I wash clay and wax the car I think it will all come up well.

Starting up the car after 5 years of sitting. I think the stale fuel and the ecu being stupid has a big factor in that it kept stalling.

Did you check to see if there was a nest or anything on the intake side of things?

Had a VW that sat for a year and a nice family of rodents had built a condo in the airbox.

After eviction car ran much better.

PS, looks much better even partially cleaned.

Will have to check that out. I quickly looked under the hood but did not see a nice opening for them to go into. But I know they are sneaky little things. Will check tomorrow.

Looks like a fun project! And as was stated above, looks like it'll actually clean up pretty nicely, at least on the outside. Those seats and carpet might need a bit more tlc.

Have fun with it! Keep us updated!

Heh, i wasn't making fun of your spelling. :p I usually use "litre" when talking about motors for whatever reason.

But i still don't know what 2.0 litre you're talking about.

Don't "might." Just do it. These motors like NGK V-powers. It'll be like... $8 for a set. Consider doing the plug wires while you're in there.

You mean, your truck is finally complete?

What I've spent on my motorcycle in the last few years is head and shoulders above that what I've spent on my truck.

I've maybe spent $550 on audio related stuff for the truck in the last 3 years. Since early 2009, I've put about $4100 into bike parts and another 200ish in gear.

Probably because you dont need one. Take off the bezel around the radio and the radio and pocket are going to be held in place by a metal bracket. Take out the screws and the double din will bolt right in. The only 'customizing' you might have to do is drill new holes if they dont line up and put a trim piece around it...maybe.

The older cars did not have a true dd face the had like a half in a 1/4 instead of the full double din. I will check it out and see. Probably will do a kenwood 6140 or a alpine.

I kid, BAF. Looks like fun. A turbo would make that a quick little scooter. And the radio opening does look like double DIN set-up.

thats a standard ford din sized radio and from the picture, it looks like the pocket is equally as big. I could be wrong looking from the angle, but I'm fairly certain thats a 2din opening.

Man... this brings back memories. When my brother was about to turn 16, my dad couldn't afford to buy him a car. But a guy he knew gave him a perfectly good engine from an '82 Capri. My dad hunted around and found a junkyard that had three Capris with near-identical bodies ranging from 81-84 in various states of disrepair... so we spent the summer with 4 Capris in the backyard, cobbling them all together into one working car. Then we taped off the garage windows with plastic and made it into a temporary paint booth, did all the body work and painted it red. It ended up being a very solid looking car.

Of course, all of my brother's friends got new cars, so he was completely ungrateful. But it was a cool experience!

Very cool experience man. I look forward to working on this car even with a good car such as the civic I have. I think after getting it running I will want to drive this more in the spring and summer and fall.

I plan to have it on the road by the end of next week. We shall see.

Tomorrow going to drain the stale gas, change the oil, Clean the interior good, Than put the top down let it all air out after I wash it so I can clay it than wax it.
