Hi all,
I am new here and would appreciate some help as I am not so good with wiring. I just bought a pair of 70s to go with a HK 3490 receiver, and I've got the bare wires fit snugly into the receiver but can't figure out how they fit into the speakers..do I unscrew the red and black things on the speakers, fit the bare wire through, and then screw them in? The bare wires are at an angle, and I get really screw them back in. Sorry, I tried to google this and couldn't find anything. I've never had any stereo equipment as good as this and really don't know what I am doing. Thanks in advance!

I don't recommend using bare wire. Get some bananas or spades.
For the time being, unscrew the binding post caps (red & black) and you will see a hole thru the metal post. Insert the wire and screw the caps down tight. Make sure there are no loose strands of wire touching anything.Political Correctness'.........defined

Yeah, thanks. I don't know why they gave me bare wires...

Whats wrong with using bare wires? I have monitor 70's,60's, and CS2 all bare wired working fine.

Nothing at all, if you don't mind the degraded sound from the copper oxidizing.Political Correctness'.........defined

F1nut has a point...and let me illustrate an amusing case.
I bought a used NAD integrated while I was in China and had it mailed to a friend while I was away to check it out. He hooked up his oxidized wiring to the NAD and it kept cutting out and/or distorting. He was at his WITS end and very frustrated! But I couldn't understand why he was having so many problems?
The owner assured me the unit was fine--so I called another friend who had owned some NAD equipment to do the 'testing'. He fired it up and used 'fresh' wiring. The unit sounded 'perfect'?
So ends a 'Tale of Two Wires'. A lot of equipment is very highly sensitive to cables and pristine connections.

An excellent example.
Let me add that using bananas or spades with the clamp screws for the wire is no better than bare wire. You want to use the type that require a soldered connection. At a minimum you should "tin" the ends of the bare wire if you believe that bare wire is as good as it gets.Political Correctness'.........defined
