my tooth hurts...I don't think I've ever hurt this bad from anything my entire life, and that includes broken bones, giant bruises, concussions, etc.

It hurt bad enough where I couldn't sleep for more than about an hour last night. Off to the dentist today (my least favorite place on earth) and I KNOW they're going to want to yank my wisdom teeth. I normally despise dental work but if it can get rid of this pain I'll let them do just about whatever they'd like...

Sorry to rant but I can't recall ever hurting this bad.

Waiting untill the pain is unbearable is not the wisest move, so I guess the wisdom teeth are doing you no good anyway. Time to yank them puppies. The cracking sound inside your head when they are broken free is a bit tough to take, but you will get through it.

Good luck man and hope you fell better soon.

I felt the same way. I cracked my one wisdom tooth about 4 months ago and waited untill the pain was unbearable. I was lucky that none were impacted. I was freaking out as I hate the dentist but they mumbed me and yanked all 4 out and it was nowhere near as bad as i thought. I played my ipod and it was over before I knew it.

I was in Navy boot in 1973 and there were NO hot NAVY chicks as a matter of fact we use to have a saying "90% of all Waves were good looking and the other 10% were in San Diego"

I hate toothaches and why is it that you always get that killer toothache on the weekend and have to wait till Monday to see a dentist? Excuse me but this is making sick, I think i'm going to go throw-up now.

Good luck and hope you get some really good drugs out of this ;).

I make it a point to eat a bunch of Oreo cookies before I go in for my cleaning--for some reason it just takes them sooo much longer ;):D

You've probably got an infection / impaction. A days worth of Amoxicillin will start making it feel better until they yank or fix whatever is wrong.

Me too, tooth just started hurting today. Going to have it yanked tomorrow before it gets unbearable. The dentist and I talked a while back this tooth needed to go - looks like now is the time.

I've waited on some other teeth until it was so unbearable I thought my head was going to pop. Not waiting that long this time.

    I vote abscess!

Do you have any swollen spots on your gums? Wisdon teeth don't make your gums swell up front and not at the back, FYI.

I say no go on amoxicillin. Waste of money. Go see a dentist. They'll probably drill it out, and have you apply liquid antibiotic to the spot itself. After that's done, clean it out and fill/root canal/crown .

Hopefully it is just impacted wisdoms. How old are you now and how old when a dentist told you it was time to take them out?

If the gum is swollen around the tooth, you have an infection that is causing pressure on the tooth nerves; that's what causes the pain.

Get some Anbusol liquid, a needle, dip the needle in the Anbusol and stick your swollen gum. That'll release the pressure; slather the gum with Anbusol and you don't have to worry about infection.

Then get your butt into the dentist so that he can verify my diagnosis.

Jason is such a sissy. I cut mine out with a rusty pocket knife and DARED an infection to set in. I won.

man what. The dentist won't drill or yank until the infection is neutralized, and they'll write you the script for antibiotics. Plus, amoxicillin is cheaper than popcorn.

I used clove oil for the pain until the dentist was in.

p.s. an abscess is an infection.

I understand an abscess is an infection, by definition. I was saying I think it's an abscess versus wisdom teeth pain.

I'm not a dentist, my only medical training is in cardiology. However, I'm fairly confident that pulling the tooth is sometimes an option. A delayed root canal is also an option. It will depend on the location of the abscess, if there is one.

Preferably, a dam can be used to isolate the tooth and infected tissue while the infection is treated. However, that doesn't mean he won't have the root drilled out, then an antibiotic applied by the dentist to the area, and then have to undergo a filling once the infection is taken care of.

To be clear. I'm saying DO NOT use antibiotics prescribed by a clinic or emergency room. GO SEE A DENTIST!!! The dentist will make you throw out what you already paid for.

It's your money and your health.

I hope they aren't impacted... I had mine taken out about 5 years ago, with all four being impacted. The dentist (or surgeon?) made me feel even better when he said he really had to "dig" for the last one haha. The few days after were the most painful days I dealt with (and you are talking to a person who had 2nd degree burns on his ****), the headaches were by far the worst I've ever had. Then, after a while, you try not to eat anything cause throwing up only makes the pain worse.

Anyways, not hear to scare ya;) I'll quit rambling. Good luck, hope it's a quick fix.

Do we get an update or are you in the hospital?

Do you have any teeth left or was the dentist content with just your wallet? Did you spawn a mini alien from the gums?

Don't know about the op, but I got the one I mentioned in my post above taken out today. Worse one yet. The roots were shaped "like a bow legged cowboy's legs" and the tooth would not come out. So he had to cut the tooth in half and essentially perform 2 extractions. Plus the cap on the adjacent tooth flew off in all of the hulabaloo and they had to cement that back on. Never thought I'd get outta there.
