Yesterday I was watching tv and i feel asleep and when i awoke i had no volume on my tv. My pre was also showing anolog instead of the normal digital for the premium comcast channels. I suppose the volume issue had something to do with that. Now we did have a storm yesterday so I thought maybe the comcast dvr was shot. I replaced that today and still I can't get any volume. I just tried another hdmi cable from the box to my pre and still no change. I have been on the phone with comcast and they say I am receiving the digital signal fine. I get video in hd but no sound. Dvds work with no problem. If you have any idea what this could be please let me know. I would hate to think My Anthem is the problem. Thanks Doug

    Doug,
Have you tried changing the Comcast box to a differant input on the pre-amp?

If trying another input doesn't work, give the Anthem a hard reset (unplug completely, let it sit for a few minutes). Go into your menu, and see if anything has defaulted back to a different setting.

Thanks guys for your replys. I finally got it going, but I have to say the comcast box seems to be the problem. It seems the hdmi input on the box is bad. I got the picture fine but audio was the problem. I hooked up an opt cable and all is back to normal. I am reading up on the the tivo boxes to see if they would work with comcast. Loosing respect for comcast. Thanks again.

I'm having the exact same issue with a Comcast DVR, but it comes & goes. Hooked up via optical, too.....

Well as i said i tried it all. I just got a brand new rng200 box from comcast. After two 8300 boxes refurbished i demanded new. Still no audio so I went with an opt cable and i guess it is fine. I really got ticked off with comcast. They gave me two boxes both banged up and as i said i asked for a tech for the new box. The rng looks a little different and with reports on both they are both junk. So i still live with comcast for now. I did explore a tivo, but i guess comcast has their hands in that also. Thanks all again for your help.

Gopd to see your up and running.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

    Hey guys,

I wish I had the links to AVS because there was an extensive thread about this issue.

After extensive troubleshooting (returning and taking their receivers to repair shops) they all realized that it was actually their cable box that was burning out its HDMI output, which would render their HDMI input on their receiver useless (no sound or even video being output in the first place).

Obviously you already figured out the problem, but this might clear up some time for future members as this problem is rather normal.
