Snagged a PSW505 today

Been in the market for a new sub for a little while and the Newegg price was just too good to pass up.

The 505 is meant to replace a PSW10 that I've had for several years and have never really been satisfied with. But I'm wondering if the PSW10 can be used as a second sub....it can't go very low or loud, but maybe if I keep it within its limitations?

Anybody ever done anything like this? I've heard that running two subs can be difficult, but I don't really know about phases or standing waves or any of that stuff.

Setup is a Denon AVR-591 with Polk M20/R15/CSM.

You could put the psw10 in the back of the room gained down to not kill it but it'd help eliminate any dead spots possibly. Play with it. You might find a great spot that is a nice add on. Or you'll see it does nothing beneficial and you end up not using it. Either way, you'll at least know if it wouldve helped and gave you something to play with.

tough to do so esp. if you have two subs of completely different frequency responses and outputs. even if you try to gain match the two according to all the documented mechanisms (turn one sub on and use your spl meter to set, then the other one etc), it would cause the weaker sub to in effect be your weakest link since in order to match the more powerful sub, the weaker one would be distorting or bottoming out for the same SPL... if you went the other way and tried to downscale your bigger sub to the weaker one's spl, then you are not utilizing the full benefits of the big sub...

having said all that, no harm in trying it out like Toxis suggested. Each room has its own dead spots and a little bit of boost of the little sub may even out your overall frequency response at a given spl over a wider range which is what you are aiming for.

I second the notion of using the psw10 as a sort of dead spot reviver....I know that an area in my living room that is practically bass-less do to a massive dead-spot..been meaning to put a smaller sub there to just sort of shadow my bigger psw505....

Perfect, there are several PSW303's listed on the bay right now. I picked up one last week for $81 and $12 shipping, it is supposed to arrive today. I am sure that one of the ones listed will also end under $100.

I haven't noticed any dead spots with my 505. I am sure that I will make one up :D or use the sub in my bedroom.

Tried the sub with some music tonight and was impressed, even in the 2.1 setup. At first I thought there was something wrong because I was getting very little output but then I found the crossover setup in my new Denon receiver and BAM there it was.

Started off with Between the Buried and Me's The Great Misdirect, lots of kick drum in this album. Felt a little better about things, so I turned the cross over up to 120 and then it really started to shine. Then I put on Outkast's debut album, then some Jay-Z, and ended up with Opeth's last album.

This thing is great, for real. I haven't tried it with movies yet, where I imagine it'll show whatever weaknesses it has, but so far I am ecstatic. I can't imagine what it's going to sound like with a few more hours on it.

I also second Toxis's suggestions above.
