Well I just happened to be over at a friend house studying and I never really looked in his driveway. I did today and noticed a 1994 Mercury Capri XR2 for practically nothing he will sell it to me. has like 120,000 miles on it and I think I am going to take it. We are going to clean it up and see how she runs before I make a deal. Take a look! I know not a z but for 500 bucks or so I think I will take it.

If she runs and gets you through even a year or so it was money well spent..

IIRC, the Mustang 5.0 will fit in there pretty easily.

Um...it's mostly a Mazda 323 with FWD. I've never heard of a 302 fitting in one of those. Not without a ton of work.

Earlier Fox-chassied ones came with a plethora of engine options. Older ones had a Kent 1.6L (of the Cortina/Escort 1600 fame), a 2.0 or 2.3L OHV engine or a 2.6/2.8L V6.

That car up there has a Mazda B6-2E or the B6T which is essentially a B6-2E with a turbocharger. It's not a rocket ship by any means but if it's an XR2, it's turbocharged. It's only about 130 horsepower. It's not real light for what it is either. It's kinda porky and with the drop top it's pretty bendy. So a decent chassis it is but it has alot working against it. It's no corner carver but economical fun it is.

I must be thinking of the older ones, thanks for the clarification.

It will be the car that if something goes wrong I will try to fix it myself before taking ti to someone. If any body work is needed I will try my hand at that as well. Most of all a nice audio system for myself will be great.

Thats what I wanted to hear!

I hope to make it a little speed bullet. Just have to be careful not to blow it up.

I will see how fast it goes stock than go from there. I want something that is going to pull me out of a corner a lot better than my civic.

I'll have a spare BP motor soon if you'd be interested. 1.8 DOHC shares the same mounts and trans, should be able to dump it in pretty easily and use your existing turbo setup for some extra oomph.

Take care of the suspension and all the other little things first. Nothing worse than a car that makes power but the rest of it being a huge pile of ****.

06 Black SI Coupe. 19x8 BBS GT 2 piece wheels, lowered on Eibach Sportline springs, Tokico Blue Struts, Megan tie bars, Skunk2 Camber bars, Injen CAI... audio system in sig which will soon be changing out the RF 360 for an Alpine W505 monitor with Imprint module for tuning. I'm sure there's other little details that I have forgot but that's the jest of it.

Nice, those are decent cars. Big improvement over the EP3s they replaced. :)

That said.... if i had said XR2, i could mob all over the Si in any performance category expect for possibly "Babe Appeal" for about $1000 worth of work. ;)

But i'm hesitant to start a "bench-racing competition," since we already had plenty of that in the Mazda vs. BMW thread. :p
