Hello! Can anyone tell me the difference in specs. between the MW6503 and MW6501 drivers. I have the monitor 10B speakers
and need to replace some MW6503 drivers but they are no longer available from the polk service center.

I was informed that the MW6501 drivers are the next replacement drivers for the MW6503. Anyone tried these drivers or know of another brand of midwoofer driver to replace the MW6503. Thanks

I'm new to the club polk site and think it is great.

Sorry no experience with the 6501s.

Yes. The MW6503 are now an extinct species. I was told that the MW6501 is usable but, I don't know what difference they may have. Power, distortion, freq range etc...

Anyone tried any different brand of midwoofer drivers in the monitor 10 speakers? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

I know Polk used them (6501) in some of their SDA models of similar size. I would think it would be okay if Polk says it is. I would just make sure to buy an even number and share the replacements evenly. If you need one, buy two and replace the bad one and the one in the same location on the other speaker.

I'll see if I can find an off brand alternative, but can't promise anything. If you could post a pic of the x-over it would help. I can't open mine as they aren't in-house anymore.

I thought someone said that Polk was looking for a source to restock the 6503's. Did Polk tell you no that's it , never again?

    Ken, Justin, Micah, or MATT:

Please tell me that Polk Audio is actively sourcing this replacement. There is considerable value to maintaining parts support for obsolete models indefinitely. It keeps the re-sale value of old speakers up. It creates and maintains classic speakers - like the SDA series. It generates CONSIDERABLE customer good-will. And, lastly, one can rest assured that if they buy Polk Audio, that spare parts will ALWAYS be available at a reasonable price.

If Polk hadn't supported me so well on my 1980 speaker technology, I would have never purchased a home theatre from them (RTi series).

Please Polk - don't drop the ball on this one. Make it a company policy to provide spare parts (or, like spare parts) forever. Your customers will appreciate it and your sales will be reflected in customer satisfaction.

    Thank you.

The e-mail reply does not say anything about looking or not looking to replace the MW6503 other than using what already is in stock and that is the MW6501.

    Hello,
Rest assured that we will have replacement 6.5" drivers for the Monitor/SDA series. We have received samples from the vendor that meet all of our specifications. The next step is to have a larger sample produced by the vendor giving us proof of unit-to-unit performance over larger quantities. Once this is accomplished the vendor can begin making them in quantity, our QA folks will examine each one made and verify that they meet our mechanical and electrical specifications. We estimate this to require another 45 to 60 days to have them in stock, maybe sooner if everything checks out. At that point we will redeem MW6501 for MW6503 for owners who are using them as a temporary substitute.
    Regards, Ken Swauger

Great news everyone! Looks like polk is comming to the rescue with new replacement MW drivers.

Hopefully they will be tested and stocked sooner rather than later :D

Thank you to everyone who has placed a reply to this thread. I
would still like to hear from anyone who may have used different drivers or made any mods to the monitor 10s.

    Hello Ken,

Thank you very much. The availability of parts will keep our Vintages Polk ALIVE!! :)

I hope we can get all the parts we need from the most needed Interconnect Cable Pin/Blade and A1 isolations with Pin/Blade.

Once again, that's a good news for us.

    Thank you.

That's quite a relief. This is a relief for future purchases. When I bought my Polks they were the current line. This makes me assume that you'll carry replacements for the current models for years to come which is pretty important to me.

    Ken,
Has Polk come up with a new supplier for the long run?
