MIT Selectable Impedance IC settings

Does anyone know which impedance setting I should us on MIT Shotgun IC's between a Conrad Johnson PV-5 pre and a VTL ST-50 amp?

Setting choices in K ohms are 5-50m 40-100 and 90 and higher. I think the CJ is at the higher end and am using the 90 and over, but I don't have a manual for either component so I don't know for sure.

This was covered elsewhere, I'll look for it. Personally though I go with what sounds best...let me check my manual and see what it says specifically.

Ok it says in my manual for best results each interface (cable) must be matched to the input impedance of the component receiving the signal, or the destination component.

Needs to be set based on the receiving piece's input impedance, so in your case the VTL amp. I would go with the 40-100 until you can find the specs. Or as Freddy says, see what sounds best. You won't break anything.

You should be able to get the input impedance info from the respective companies.

Thanks all, I do have them set on the 90 and higher setting as that's where it sounds best to me, but it is so early in getting to know the amp that I want to find out for sure. I wrote to VTL earlier today and haven't heard back yet.

My MIT S1.3 XLR ICs have an overlap range between each setting. Currently I have mine on the low setting, but tomorrow night will switch to the medium setting. I am pretty comfortable with how they sound now so any difference should be apparent.

That's a name I picked up in another newsgroup where a strange character from the Atlanta area named "Dangerbird" found her :). I will give her a call tomorrow.

    I knew that. That's why I chided with ". . . a strange character from . . . " :D

I researched the heck out of this amp after sending the funds to find out about setup and what kind of tubes I might want to roll. I'm just warming her up to listen again this morning as I work.

I love it when you listen to familiar music and hear things you never knew were in the mix before, and this amp definitely allows for that! Knopfler's Philadelphia is cued up on the turntable.

How long did you normally allow for warm up? 10-15 min?

I usually let it warm up for 15 minutes,, 20-30 if I'm gonna check bias,, and what I found was ,, after about 45-60 minutes she really starts to sound sweet.Don't be like me and check the bias every day,(my early tube days ;)), set it and just enjoy,I think that you are finding out that this little amp will surprise you.Enjoy it. :)

I left my settings on low. The MIT range's are 0 - 50K (low), 40k to 100K (mid), and something else for high. Anyway, the balanced input impedance for the Cambridge-Audio 840W is 38K. I was thinking it was 48K. So much for memory.

My tube pre input impedance is very high. I wonder it this is the norm for all tube gear?
