Hey all, I haven't been around for a while... having a baby will do that to you I guess.

Anyway... I built my gear into a wall in my current HT with shelves made out of MDF. It turned out ok, I guess but I'm not completely happy with the fit and finish.

Do any of you have any recommendation of how to build a rack into the wall? (So the front of the gear would be flush with the wall and the gear goes back into the wall.)

It will hopefully be in a new place, but here is a link to a thread where you can see my current rack...

We decorate clean and contemporary. No need for any doors to cover it up and connections will be made in a fake closet in the next room.

I'm curious. Can you access the rear of your equipment via a panel in the other room?
    Sounds good to me...

As simple as this sounds, put some trim around it. It will make it look much better.

    Example:

If you put a door on the rack.... what do you do for IR signals from remotes? I door might be nice. Any recommendations for the pro-looking racking?

I've thought about trim. Might at least go that route.

Well... when you put it that way... it seems like a really stupid question. :o

you could put a tinted glass door on it and the remotes should work

I'm doing mine with a Middle Atlantic rack, then usig custom face plates for the equipment to give it a clean flush look. Of course I haven't started this yet so I don't ahev any pics, but I'll try to find some of the threads from the guy I bought the rack from.

Of course since you already have your nook in place, maybe you could just add some threaded rails to support the custom faceplates without having to actually use a whole rack. ???

Otherwise, adding trim, as Zeroes suggested, would make a big difference.

Exactly and would also look spiffy, not counting that you will keep dust away from the gear (I hate dusty gear :(:o )

mmadden28 links leads us to great idea also
