Who do you write like?

We all write. It's in our posts, our emails, our text messages and so on. Some of us are eloquent and others like to put on the heir of eloquence. Still others are crass and basic and even still, others are lazy and take shortcuts. Whether you a grammar **** of a "foenetic" speller, we all have a style.

This cool little website analyzes your style and compares it to famous authors. Then it'll tell you who your writing style most resembles. So, are you closer to Stephen King or H.G. Wells? Do you have the grammatical skills of Frasier Crane or Elmo?

Find out! Just clip a copy of your writing and paste it in the box, click analyze and see!

So I write like Dan Brown...but I don't get paid like him and few people read me? I really was amused by the analysis since I could have written in a totally different style. I was not trying to imitate Brown at all. I just threw three amusing paragraphs together and that's what the ROBOT said!

I made two entries. One was an information thread on cleaning up Snap, Crackle & Pop on LPs.

In this thread I write like Dan Brown.

The second thread was a how to and results of bi-amping my 1.2TLs.

In this thread I write like Cory Doctorow.

Who the hell is Cory Doctorow?

    I'm googling him now!

EDIT; just read up on Doctorow and my reactions was :rolleyes::mad:

I suspect that we all write like a limited number of writers in this data base. The program must have a few--not MANY parameters. Because how else could Joe's information thread about LPs and my spontaneous short about an obscure doctor being taken to a mental hospital in a carriage unknowingly default to the same author?

Or should I say 'Cory'?? lol

It's a fun exercise in any case!

    James Joyce. That is all.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

    I think you're over analyzing.

Especially for Club Polk and the butchering that "passes" for the English language around here.

Oh common, he's a SciFi writer. Fits right in here with our frequent discussions of cable upgrades and turntable tweaks ;)

My creative writing is evidently like David Foster Wallace and my liberal law school hippy style is like Cory Doctorow. One guy killed himself after battling depression for nearly 50 years and the other guy is a raging left wing activist moron. What's this program trying to tell me?

No man, DFW was only in his 30's when he died, maybe early 40's. He was supposed to be the next great American writer, as in Nobel Literature some day.
Personally, I can't stand his stuff. He writes, scratch that, wrote like the Grateful Dead, all noodling around for hours. Not my cuppa.

But what the program is telling you is it was coded by a Russian programmer, who may or may not have a clue about literature.
    Frankly, most coders don't.

Stupid thing thinks I write like Stephen King. I wish.

haha. Thinks this post reads like Ian Fleming. That bastage.

I have that one on the bookshelf, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

981 pages of text plus an additional 104 pages of end notes (388)...and this for a work of fiction. I've heard that one should keep two bookmarks: one of the text, one for the notes. Not quite ready to take the plunge yet...
