popping in speakers when turning on...

I recently bought a set of polk RM6750 speakers. When I turn on the my reciever, usually after a few minutes I get a loud popping noise, very loud as if it was a surge from some circuitry turning on. At first I thought it might have something to do with the sub circuitry turning on once it detected a signal, as I had it set to 'auto' and the delay seemed to maybe match the time it took to turn on the sub amp. I switched the sub to always 'on' and I still get the same problem. I could try turning the sub 'off' and see if the problem goes away, but I don't feel like trying little things one by one before seeing if it is a common problem. Before the polk speakers, I had sony speakers and sub and never had a problem and as far as I can tell the speaker wires/connections/cables/power cords/etc are the same as before. That is why I don't think it might be the reciever going bad.
Any thoughts or anyone notice the same behavior from the speakers?
Thank you.

I think it is only coming from the sub. I unplugged the sub (RCA jacks for clarification) from the receiver and when I turned on the receiver, I heard a very faint 'click' from the receiver but no 'popping' in the front/center/satellites. With the receiver powered up, I plugged (RCA jacks) in an old Sony Sub and within a minute of plugging in the sub and I got a 'pop' in the sub. So, I would figure that there is something wrong with my receiver, as the receiver is 10 years old.
PS - I don't have any other receivers laying around to test. -
WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!
What receiver do you have...brand, model? 10 years is a pretty long time so depending on the AVR it could be acting up--at least your test suggests this.

I have a Sony STR-DE835. With the sub off and disconnected, I changed the speaker size in the receiver setup from small to large ( 3 different times ) and I did get a 'pop' this time in the satellites. So i bet it's the receiver, time to look for a new one.
