Vinyl - Must have reissues and remasters

Starting a thread (hopefully to be stickied) to discuss must have vinyl reissues and remasters. I'll start with two:
Nirvana Nevermind Remastered from original tapes
The Doors LA Woman rerelease on 180 gm vinyl.
Nevermind is really well mixed, not a ton of compression. Has a nice, raw sound to it.
L.A. Woman is another really good mix, and 3 of the tracks are the original mixes. Doesn't say if all the tracks are original, or if some were remixed. The sound stage is huge on my system.

Great idea. Anybody know if the Bill Evans Trio's "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" or "Portrait in Jazz", both in 180 gram AcousTech 45RPM vinyl reissue, are worth $30 apiece?

Rush: Permanent Waves (2007 Remastered Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab)
-You all know the songs and they sound great, no background noise on LP. Guitars and bass drum stand out nicely in all songs. 180g high definition vinyl, Limited Editon numbered, half speed mastered, static free/dust free inner sleeve
Joy Division: Unknown Pleasures (2007 Reissue Rhino/Warner music group)
- Music and band speak for themselves. Sound is very good on the vinyl. LP is 180g vinyl, includes protecitve inner sleeve for LP and reissued art work cardboard sleeve with printed song titles and times with door picture on back (like original) -

I only ever owned Fire and Water on 8-track :-)
It'd be nice to have a good copy.
Now, back to the original thread topic (to which I can add nothing; I have virtually no experience with modern LP reissues - too many good old original versions out there for me to have invested, yet, in the remakes). -
This one would be one to try.. You won't be disappointed..:cool:mhardy6647 wrote: »I only ever owned Fire and Water on 8-track :-)

Yes, I've bought several; two off the top of my head are Abby Road & Yellow Submarine. Both sound great!
I just remembered, the Beatles White Album double LP. Not the best but better than the original. -
Nope only the mono CD box set (a gift from our son, daughter & son-in-law, pretty cool).

I have several dozen other reissues ranging from James Taylor, ZZ Top, REM, Lou Reed, The Who, "Quadrophinia" etc. That I haven't even opened yet. Will post them later. -
Pixies - Surfer Rosa GAIN 2™ Ultra Analog 180g LP (Remastered Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab)
Sound is awesome, no background noise on LP. Vocals and guitars sound like you are in a room with them.
Opinion:Because of the music it is easy to get lost in this album, and this remaster makes it even easier. Grab a drink or coffee/tea, lower the lights, get comfy and crank this one up!
Standard MFSL stuff:180g high definition vinyl, Limited Editon numbered, half speed mastered, static free/dust free inner sleeve.
I will also be doing a comparison with the SACD, as well as both the SACD and MFSL LP version of Doolittle! I will do the comparisons in another thread as this is one is for LP's -

You know I was on the waiting list for that for over two years now it comes out when I'm broke, go figure.
Have you compared it to the original LP release? I'm sure it will have a blacker backround but I'm wondering if they got every they could from the master on to that 200 gm vinyl and it produces things not heard on the original. -
I would have to say that they got all they could. I'm trying to remember which track, but on one, I remember hearing a couple horns, an acoustic guitar and the bass all mixed to about the same level, but still being able to hear the transients from the guitar and the vibrations of the strings/box, the horns and the bass all quite distinctly in the right channel.
I haven't gotten to compare it to the original, since I don't have a copy of the original any more.Turntable: Empire 208

I have Neil Young's Classic Records 200gm 2 LP set of "Greatest Hits" and it's jaw dropping. Young is well known for putting out extraordinary sounding LPs. Here's a set I would love to get;

Picked up a few more reissues the other day, but haven't gotten around to doing their initial cleaning. Yes, I clean new records too. Probably be a week or two since I had surgery on my leg yesterday.
Also got an original, sealed release of This Is Henry Mancini, but haven't gotten around to cleaning that one yet either.Turntable: Empire 208

I have this set but have not listened to it yet! The packaging and the materials used are outstanding. Here is a quote from the release, "In the case of the Harvest LP, they located the last manufacturer in the US that can still make hand-glued gatefold covers to carefully reproduce the original cover."
I have been picking up most of Neil Youngs, 200gram Classic Records reissues and they are fantastic.
I also picked up Neil Young Tonight's the Night for $8.00. The sound on the reissue if fantastic.

IMHO this is a must to get out the crap and mold release compounds the factory uses. Use a good cleaner made for removing mold release compounds like MFSL Super Deep Record Cleaner followed by a rinse of any good record cleaning solution followed by a distilled water rinse will ensure your grooves and record are pristine!
Actually I start out with Vinyl-Zyme Gold to eat up any mold or mildew that may have accumulated on the record then I go with the above. -

Wow you seem to right on top of things! Good on you!:) -
i've got the sundazed reissues of the first 6 meters records and the first two stooges records... i've got a bunch of other stuff on 180g vinyl although i think the sundazed reissues are the best quality. i've got a modern lovers 220g reissue from italy... that's pretty hot. i've got a lot of reissued dub reggae too... but most of it is pressed like crap although i do have some decent 180g pressings of some lee perry and burning spear stuff... there's other stuff i have reissued on heavier vinyl... nothing to write home about...
also i have some of the sonic youth box set reissue/remasters... i've got dirty and goo... i had daydream nation but i found that the remix was AWFUL. so i gave it away and still have my original copy of that record... which i think was mastered better than the reissue.
the whole remastered reissued thing is a mixed bag... moreso on cd than vinyl though... for example... they're on like the 3rd or 4th set of cd reissues of the bowie catalog? when does it end? although i will say i appreciate when reissues contain bonus discs of b sides and unreleased material and the like. for example... the cd reissue of the name of this band is talking heads is one of my favorite re-releases of one of my favorite records...
some remastered stuff i've heard just sounds horrible all compressed and poorly mixed presumably for ipod dynamics instead of "hi-fi." who knows. other stuff sounds better to me. like the remastered versions of raw power by the stooges and live at leeds sound better to me than the originals.
recently brought a bunch of my dad's old jazz records back from the e. coast and was amazed at the quality of some of those old blue note and columbia records... they sound just as good as anything modern... fortunately they were well cared for.....
Remastering "Live at Leeds" to sound better than the original is quite a feat! -
any chance of getting this one going again? Maybe a new thread or we can just add to this one. I know there are a lot of music lovers and not just Polk lovers on here and it would be nice to have a go to place to read about awesome originals or re-issues. This would not be your favourite album but more on the quality of sound over the master. LP's have made a comeback!
What ya think? feedback.... -
Cars mfsl titles are worth the price.
