So here's the deal, I just got the lsi's setup and running through my Adcom GFA-7500 with my onkyo 706 running pre duties. After listening all morning at moderate levels at best I re-calibrated the receiver for crossover duties to 80hz as a starting point. Then after turning things back on and watching a zeppelin blu-ray the receiver went into standby mode at around -20db I guess I don't understand why this would be the case when I'm not powering any speakers off of the receiver but only the amp.

Any insight?

Double check all you hookups first "all of them", Then recalibrate.

When I was using my 705 as a pre it got hot a lot. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation room because it will STILL GENERATE HEAT from the amps inside, just not as much. Gave mine room to breath and it cured the problem. Also do as TFL suggested.

Well, it's been running all day at low volumes and hasn't done it again. I think things are all ok and should be fine once the new interconnects show up.

Alright, interconnects are here. They certainly improved the volume but didn't truly fix the issue. Got the sound to around -15db on the receiver and it went into protect mode again. Any other thoughts or solutions before sending this damn thing back? I did a factory reset once and got the same results.

Did you ever find the problem? I have an Onk 807 driving an Emotiva XPA-5 and it (the Onkyo) went into standby mode one time on me out of approximately 25 hours listening. It was at fairly high volume but but just went into standby for no reason. No one was even close to the remote. Turned it back on and its been fine since but can't help but wonder after reading your post...

Never found the solution. This thing was shutting off at -25db after 2 minutes so it was messed up pretty bad. I just got issued a full refund from the ebay seller this morning for it.

Well, after all the turmoil the Marantz SR7002 arrived today and I got it from the office after work. After the quick hookup since everything was still back there from the Onkyo I am loving every minute of the new setup. After what has turned out to be just under a month from picking up the LSI's I feel that everything is finally operating as it should and it sure sounds nice. A fantastic upgrade from the Monitor 70s (though good starter speakers) I am finally confident I have a system to build upon rather than overhaul. Once some more wedding gifts start rolling in it will certainly be time to add some 7s or 9s for surround duty!

Thanks again to everyone that helped along all the issues but to sum a few other things up. The circuit breaker no longer pops, the receiver doesn't go into protect mode, the speaker volume is great, and overall just sounds amazing. I believe whole heartedly now that the Onkyo must have had some major electrical issues if the protect mode and circuit breaker issues were solved immediately after unboxing the marantz.

Awesome news Grim, glad to hear you are back up and running. That Onk must have had issues, because it shouldn't have acted that way. I just put 806 into protect mode a few weeks ago and it is in the shop now for repairs. Haven't seen you on COD much, you still play?

Good to be back man, yeah I hear ya, I am on my last kick myself with that game. Play every once in awhile, after I paid all that money for those crapy new maps I felt I needed to get my moneys worth, lol. FFA is a waste of time nowadays because of the boosters, and we all know how good I am at TDM, lol. Anywhoot, sorry for the derail, carry on.

Good to hear your Marantz is doing well. Onkyos can be a bit temperamental--do some quirky things occasionally have to be 'reset' or need a firmware upgrade..

    Ask billbillw and Kuntasensei.

I know I get a glitch here and there every so often. Fingers crossed!

Jeff, Hope that 806 comes back soon!

I'm finally confident that everything is acting as it should. Over the past 3 days now having some time off of work and some good movies to watch I have been nothing but pleased with how everything came together. A true upgrade from the monitor 70s (RIP). Everything is so much more clear and quiet when it should be. Everything seems well balanced at this point and even the fiance was surprised by the difference in sound over the past few nights when watching some movies. Now all that needs to happen is to get things resolved with UPS and Mole about those 70s and my audio related stress from the past month should go away.
