Hey Steve,
It really depends where the caps are. What component are you referring to?
Regards, Ken -
Hi Ken,
The copoment is my Carver amp.It is pretty old. I am using it for the upper range on my rti 12's.I just disconneted it and ran my parasound full range and the cracking went away. Now I am positive it is my amp I just don't know what is wrong with it.I am new to the external amplifier.Does it sound like the caps or could it be something silly.I run diamondback cables so I am pretty sure those aren't the problem.
Thanks Ken in advance.

Does the Carver have a volume control or trim pots?
Do you hear a hum through the speakers when the Carver is hooked up?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
Face,
No don't have any volume control. And there is no hum.I am going to tear it apart and rehook up everything up.Maybe it is something simple.

Try cleaning all connections. But if the amp is about 30 years old, it probably is time for a recap."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Since you indicate that both channels are effected it's possible the problem is in the power supply. I say this because the power supply feeds both channels.

I had the same problems with a Rotel. It was a cold solder joint on the output circuit.
