I agree the league would have been more balanced and competitive if he would gone to any of the other teams. Chicago would have been the favorites if he chose them, but it would allow Miami to form a team around Bosh and Wade.

That's why I hate that he chose Miami.

Not to mention a team is not just a few guys. What team will they be able to build around Wade, Bosh and James with the little salary they have left?

Maybe James is ushering in a new era for superstars who havent won a ring...they already have millions, theyre just missing that ring. Sign for pennies to a stacked roster and win a few championships, still have millions, retire...life is good. Just sayin'...

Who cares where he goes or waht he does? I just care that he's an egomaniacal **** who had to drag it out for months, and then have a one-hour prime time television special devoted to himself.

I wanted to back up to a comment that Cavs management didn't do enough.

Agreed they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, but . . . Lebron would only sign a 3 year contract 3 years ago instead of the more typical 5 or 6. This tied management's hands a bit, and also caused other players in the league to sign shorter deals.

I'm just glad it's finally over so we can move on.

Apparently the Cav's owner, Dan Gilbert, also owns FatHead. The LeBron FatHeads are on sale for $17.41, the year Benedict Arnold was born.

I saw that earlier, Gilbert has completely lost his mind. Whatever respect or sympathy I had for that team has been lost with his actions. What a ****, no wonder Lebron left...

I don't feel for his team. I feel for his fans. The rantings of an apparent lunatic aside, he just basically **** slapped his hometown on live television. I know many of you didn't watch it, but I did. He could have shown a bit more sympathy for Cleveland.

This probably won't be responded to, but do you notice anything at all interesting about your comments? You feel for HIS fans.

Who are these people fans of, LeBron or the Cavaliers? It can be both, but any fan of LeBron should be pleased as piss that he's going to a place he has a better chance of winning. Cavaliers fans, yeah, I can understand their disappointment, but even they'll eventualy get over it. Players come and go all the time through trades, retirement, injury, and free agency.

When the stands are more empty in Cleveland this season it'll be because all of the bandwagon jumpers got off the bus. Fans my ****.

It'll be interesting who they pick up. I know they traded Beasley today to free up some more space. This looks more like an NBA fantasy team now.

I'm going to start enjoying the second half of baseball the Rangers are looking great they just picked up Cliff Lee.

WOW!!! Did this just happen? I took the kids to see Despicable Me and missed this. I'm headed to ESPN.com to see who they gave up...that worries me a little bit.

Just looked it up. I think they gave up too much for a rent-a-pitcher. He'll only be here 3 months because the Rangers will little chance of re-signing him. Smoak is struggling, but I think he's going to be a great player. Beaven has moved through the system quickly as he was just promoted to AAA. Not sure about the other two guys involved.

But I do understand that you have to give up a lot to get a pitcher like Cliff Lee.

I haven't been up to date on the players recently. I think we have enough hitting and the Rangers have always needed pitching. I'm sure Smoak will be good, but we need a great pitcher over a good first baseman right now.

Hopefully they'll re-sign him will we not be able to offer him a good contract in the off-season?

    So I have a question.

Was there any good way for LeBron to leave the team?

I agree the way he handled it was childish, but that completely flew out the window given the childish responses by the Cavalier's owner. It tells us all why they never won with LeBron (or anyone else).

Loyalty, though! Yeah...until teams are going to show loyalty to the players when they are in a statistical slump, injured too much, etc...why should any player show a loyalty to that team? Yes, the fans are the 'victims' in this. As such, why aren't an equal amount of people pissed at the Cavs? Only LeBron is the ****? What a disgusting double standard.

Some talk like he had no right to leave, in which case I think the obvious needs to be pointed out in stating that slavery was abolished a long time ago.

I'm not so sure why you choose to go there Demi, as tens of millions per year don't make for a very good analogy at all, unless you have some other agenda.

I chose to go there because people are talking as though he didn't have any right to do what he did.

As for the analogy, you might look up the definition of the word because it fits perfectly here. LeBron had every right to play wherever he can be hired to play.

Fans or his current team have no right to restrict his freedom to play for whatever team will hire him (outside of the rules of the league and contracts, of course). You might not like it, but admit, that's all there is -- emotional disdain.

He was an unrestricted free agent.

And I'm glad he didn't go to NY either. Patterson will have to get that $12M somewhere else.

    +1

I get the analogy and don't think it's in poor taste. I don't know any of the details, but did Cleveland do everything in it's power to lock him up long term before he became a free agent? If they did and he still chose to go the free agent route then the writing should have been on the wall long ago. If they didn't then I guess it's their fault he's gone.

I I don't understand the disdain for him signing with Miami. You have three players who took less salary to be able to play together and increase their odds of winning a championship. I personally think that's pretty cool. I just wish a couple of them would have signed with the Mavs:D

KrazyMofo: I agree that if they are able to re-sign Lee it will be a good deal.

I've been a Rangers fan ever since my dad used to take me games back in the 70's. I've suffered through lots of losses so this year has been fun. To me Cliff Lee really helps IF you make the playoffs. Obviously being able to throw him a couple of times in a series gives you a much better chance to win the series. If they mess around and don't make the playoff then this deal looks terribly bad.

    Who's your team?

I've been a Rangers fan all my life. I use to watch almost every game back in the 90's when they had Juan Gonzalez and Pudge. The Rangers recently always start off strong then fall off after the All-star break. I think this team is a lot better this year, and confident they'll make the playoffs this year. The Rangers issue has always been pitching, since they have that now. I feel like they'll go deep in the playoffs this year. I'm hoping to catch some more games in the second half.

Source: Fisher, Riley to meet in Miami

    By Ramona Shelburne
    ESPNLosAngeles.com

Lakers free agent point guard Derek Fisher has a meeting scheduled with Miami Heat president Pat Riley on Saturday, according to a source close to the situation.

Fisher's preference remains to re-sign with the Lakers, but he feels the need to explore his options and listen to Riley's pitch after the Heat landed free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Miami also re-signed Dwyane Wade and were rumored to be closing in on Mike Miller.

According to a source, negotiations between Fisher and the Lakers have remained positive and the team has put an offer on the table that was stronger than what's been previously reported (one year, $2.5 million). Fisher returned from a trip to China on Wednesday, but he's had several conversations with both Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and Riley.

I've always had a soft spot the Brewers. I used to be a Robin Yount fan back in the day. Still have a couple of his rookie baseball cards that I should probably sell to fund an audio upgrade:p

I also like the Packers. I'd move to Wisconsin but I couldn't take the winters.

No doubt. The cost of living is nice too. These two factors take me back to our Lebron discussion about how he didn't really take less money. I've always wondered with the tax advantages and the lower cost of living how the Rangers and Mavs couldn't bring in big name free agents. Maybe that's why I'm so cynical in thinking most of those just want to be among the highest paid in the league and everything else be damned.
