I'm just sitting here, mouth agape! Are these not the BIG, passive speakers we have been asking for?!!!

If they are giving the RTi's the red carpet treatment like this, I simply can not wait to see what they do with the LSi's!

The product image photos are usually pretty accurate. Only exception I've seen is the black LSi's instead of ebony.

Here's more links for centers and surrounds.

One interesting note is the availability of a cherry finished center.
Also the FXi's look to have a glossy finish. The FXi5 has a bipole-dipole switch as well.

The new RTI's are still using the same Tri Lam tweeter? So will they basicly have the same sound as before, or do you think Mathew tweeked something else?

Nice looking speakers. Though I'm not crazy of the silver face plate but Polk knows marketing and silver is in on almost anything that's audio/video !!

Anyone know if there will be a new line of Lsi's anytime soon ????

If I remember right, there was rumor a few months ago about a new flagship in the LSi line. No, not the photoshopped ones! ;) But it was going to be a new price point, like $5k or something. We can only hope!

I'm just wondering if I should hold off on an Lsi purchase that's if there's going to be a new series soon.

The Lsi's were introuduced in the 4th quarter of 2001 and the current rti's came out in 2002. It didn't take long for the Rti's to be revised......so do ya think the Lsi's are due soon ??

    Hi:

All well and good, but I still believe you need MASS to have the bass you need. You have to move air and a 6 or 8" just won't do the job. I don't care how many you have in the cabinet. You need a 12 or 15" woofer.

    Gary

They dont use 12's and 15's for speakers (midrange) because its muddy. If 12's and 15's were more accurate Polk would prolly use them. 6.5", 3 of them also, especially with 500 watts driving to them will match the volume of a 12 if not a 15. Then you have the mains, thats (6) 6.5" subs in the front soundstage without a subwoofer, thats more than a 15, it will also be more accurate. Smaller woofers are used on most speakers these days unless they are subwoofer, however Polk is going for accuracy, not boom.

The rti12 kinda puts me in mind of the rta15tl but just not quite as fancy, I think they are definently on to something here. I like the spiked base as well, looks like polk may have finally listened to the masses.:D

    Sid,
surface area of one 15" = 176.7 cubic inches
surface are of SIX 6" drivers = 169.6 cubic inches
so your statement is on shakey ground.

This is not to mention that the one 15 is a point souce, so even if they had the same area, the 15 would produce more volume. and be able to go deeper.

The reason I don't applaud the plethra of small drivers is the RTi150. That speaker is a waste of drivers and money. That had your Six Drivers, and our ONE 12" velodyne CHT would CREMATE it in bass output. Don't get me wrong I actually love the look of the new RTis, and I will surely give them a healty and most likely positive audition, but, To think that small speakers can compete with big ones for bass is to work for Bose.

This would all be right if they were 6.5" drivers, but they are 8".
And I also agree with the theory of a stand alone sub, but for pure HT impact I am willing to bet that they are awesome, especially with that 12" Velo you referred to :D
These are something I would look into adding to my setup for sheer impact, I am building a great 2 channel setup right now so the musicality of my HT isn't as important, because it will likely see about 5% music use just during parties and stuff.

Back on topic... Man these things are unbelieveable! If my calculations are correct, they will be almost 6 feet tall!!!

Came to 8 and a little left over... Damn thought I was gonne be eye to eye with a polk speaker for the first time in my life.

    dthomps,
Hey I totally agree with you- there are both pros and cons to running a big sub, I'm more of a music person myself- My favorite sub in the world is my SPL 800 (as you already know). However I was just appalled by the statement that the six small drivers had more volume than a 12 or 15, and had to clear that up. Like I said- that's Bose Thinking

However, three powered 8"s should be very sweet and I can't wait to get my demo on.:D

I like that they've gone with magnetic grills. I can't remember which other manufacturer had those exact style spikes, but I think that I remember seeing them on either Mission, Boston Acoustics, or Energy.......just can't seem to find them online, but I KNOW that I've seen those before. They look hot nonetheless......
