Well, many of you may already know my current situation and for those of you that don't I'll fill ya inn. October of 2009 I was laid off at my current job. From day one I have gone on numerous interviews and I apply for numerous jobs per week to keep getting my unemployment benefits. I have applied for everything you can possibly think of just to try and find a job making more than unemployment is paying me only to get rejection letters stated either I'm over qualified or not having any related work experience to the position I'm applying for. Lets just say that I went from making $80K/year as a civil engineer to basically getting paid $20K/year by unemployment, yeah, it hurt and still does hurt. Well, with that much of an income difference I had but no choice to file for chapter 13 bankruptcy. Once that was said and done things seemed to be getting better, at least until today.

My wife has been a pet care manager for well over 2 years for Petsmart, didn't make great money but was carrying insurance for our family as well as bringing home a paycheck every week. Poor girl never called out a single day except for once which she had the flu so bad I had to take her to the emergency room that day. She was already scheduled off the following day but fought it and went back to work 2 days after getting out of the hospital. Well for the first 2 years she was there she never got written up for anything then they transferred a new manager into the store that just seemed to have it out for her from day one, guess she was posing a threat to her, who the hell knows. Within 3 months she was written up 5 times for **** that the store manager was/wasn't doing which is signing check list. When she confronted the manager of this she said the next time you back talk me or confront me on something I'm doing wrong I'm gonna let ya go. My wife tried on numerous occasions to go to upper management on the situation but was then told, "she's your boss, deal with it".

Well, less than 2 months ago she was transferred to a new store, a lower volume store. She was informed about the transfer when she walked in to start her work week, no manager came to her to talk with her about the transfer, just transferred her, something towards the effect of, "oh yeah, next Monday you will be started at store whatever". It left a real **** taste inn her mouth about the way Petsmart did things but she went along with it for the simple fact that she knew she had to have this job. In those 2 months the new stores numbers as far as pet lose and sales where the best they have every been in the 3 years the store has been open. Well, about 2 weeks ago my wife got sick as hell while at work, I mean tossing cookies in the trash can sick so they called me to come and get her cause they feared she wouldn't be able to drive home. Well guess what, I had to go and pick her up from work at 11 a.m., well she left without signing that damn checklist. The manager called the house at 4 p.m. to inform my wife of this, so with my wife and trash can I took here back to work which is 1/2 hour away to sign a check list that took 3 seconds to sign. Well, she was written up for not signing the check list before leaving the building. What a bunch of ****.

Well today she was FIRED!!!! Are you freaking kidding me? When asked why she was being let go the manager straight up said, I just don't think you are gonna fit in at this store anymore. Told her she was the hardiest working person in the store and every since she's been there the store numbers have been awesome! WTF! Well, that's the low down on whats been going on in my life so I guess I'd just like to ask you guys to pray for our family, we are trying so damn hard to get back on our feet and it seems like every time we see light at the end of the tunnel, someone shuts the **** off. Thanks for listening.
Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

Grimster74, sorry to hear about all of the trials in your life. Hang in there, the main thing is you are not alone and your wife is not alone (you have each others and it is the most important of all). I've had trials in my life on many occasions and I can tell you that with a positive attitude you'll get through this and be a winner. Yet, those people don't deserve your wife from what I read and she deserves better than working for crappy people. She will come out of this with much better than what she had. While this whole situation is hard on the both of you, this is (or at least will be in the long run) a relief for her... she deserves better, she deserves to be recognised for her hard working, she deserves to be respected and properly threated at her work.

A word of advice for your self, be carefull not to rush into just about any job which can set you back for many years (I lived this). Make sure you only select jobs that are suited for you and matches level of knowledge and expertise. I know this is hard for you to conceive right now with the stress level. Now that the both of you are free, maybe consider moving if it brings better to your life.

Trials come and go in life but if we are courageous and face the turmoil, the light will definitively shine at the end of the tunnel. Face it, you can not really go any further down now, your only way now is UP  Keep the faith and I will definitely keep you and your wife in my prayers.

    God bless!

Rob, that absoltely sucks. I know what you are going through with making a ton of money and then BAM $20k per year becomes reality almost overnight. Me and my family will pray for your situation to improve. As far as Petsmart is concerned I can't stand them, they are so expensive compaired to other pet stores.

Sorry to hear about all the BS ya'll are going through. Let me know if you need anything. I don't have any good advice because it sounds like you're doing all you can. Most of us think about this stuff, but its a lot different than when you're actually going through it.

I'll say a few for you for sure.

Nothing but good wishes sent your way, Rob.

We're in a similar situation here with the Mrs. losing her job last year, just have to keep at it.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Sounds just awful! Really sorry to hear about this. In hard times...some people just freak out and start acting like A-hxxxs, even entire companies do.

Here's hoping for better times and a speedy recovery! Unfortunately I've heard of a lot of people, recently, being treated this way!

Sadly, it often does take something like making these sorts of situations public to get a response out of a corporation. If you can cost them enough in public relations, they suddenly get real willing to listen to reason.

Either way, hope things get a lot better for you very soon.

This topic always hits home for me. I lost my job almost 2 years ago and I have not been the same since.
Taking a pay cut hurts even more. trying to re figure out how to live seems almost impossible. You manage and find ways to cut cost but in the back of your mind is a life you once had.
Today I sit here and I have a clear picture of the future for me and my family. I know what I must do in order to retain the life I once had. It's a very tuff road but sitting around waiting for something to happen , well get comfortable as life you pass you by.

Getting fired from a job of no fault of your own is something that really makes for a better living. You realize your wasting your time and effort and you should move onto more suited work. I see your wife getting a better job and being happier. Someone just had to push her out to get her moving. This is a good thing.

Applying for work today sucks ****. The jobs that use to call to you and you didn't give them any time are just not there anymore but there is always a hole to fill somewhere where you belong. Don't give up. Take a break once in a while. Do something that calms you , relax , not worry , then get back in there and make it happen. Good things come to good people and as I don't know you personally , I feel you are good people. That alone is enough of a reason you will land on your feet.

Hang in their man. I have faith in you.

It should be very easy to find an attorney for wrongful termination, don't wait as time is a lawsuit's enemy. If you have the ability to write clearly and succinctly send them a letter telling them that you will give them one chance to compensate you for $50k before doing these things:

    1. Filing a complaint with the labor commissioner
    2. Filing for unemployment on the grounds of wrongful termination
    3. Retain an attorney for a maximum damage suit
    4. File a personal lawsuit against the first bad manager

Meanwhile spend a bit of time writing and organizing a review of incidents as they started happening from the time the new manager showed up on the scene. You can't believe the pressure corporate can be exposed to for ignoring complaints about management. Done correctly you can force them to get rid of her as part of the compensation.

Don't be a victim, thousands of wrongful termination suits are won for lesser problems than this.

Large corporations freak out about Labor Commissioner actions, it costs them time and money defending against them, a wrongful termination suit costs them a couple of hundred grand even if they win it.

Good luck to you and your family.
