The wikipedia answer above is the long and short of the answer.

Just the last octet is not always the only involved in classless routing.
An example would be and address with a /23 or lower number.
You are working strictly with class C in the above problem.

Take your time and understand here, with subnetting, it's the basis you need to build on.
    Parasound C1, T3, HCA-3500, HCA-2205A, P/DD1550, Pioneer DV-79avi, Oppo BDP-83, WD Media Server W/HDD,
Dynaudio Contour 3.3, Dynaudio Contour T2.1, Polk OWM3, Polk DSW micropro 1000 (x2),
Pioneer Kuro 50" Plasma, Phillips Pronto Control w/Niles HT-MSU.

The answers are B and D.

B is a network #, D is a host. They made the same mistake with D that I did- saw 24 bits and thought 28.
That's a tricky bastage question in any case, plus they are wrong. Usually it just asks what are valid host #'s.

    B with a /26 or .192 has 4 networks with 62 hosts each. Network #'s are 0,64,128,192.

    D with a /24 or .0 has 1 network with 254 hosts. Network # is 0.

Correct me if I'm wrong, guys.

You are correct that D is not a network address but rather a host on the 192.18.12.0/255.255.255.0 network.
