I just purchased the SVS PB12 and it works great for music and great for movies, I have listened to SACD, CD's and vinyl and it handles them great.
When I went to purchase the SVS sub the only reason I went with the 12 over the 10 was the size of room I have to fill. If my room was smaller I could have went with the PB10!
SVS build is quality and the sound is outstanding! If you do decide to go with SVS you will not be disappointed. Good luck with your choices!

So this thing is huge, biggest 10" sub i've ever seen. Very high build quality you can just tell from looking at it. I haven't had much time to listen to the sub but from what i've heard i've noticed a few things. First it blends in a thousand time better with my Monitor 60's, the psw10 used to stick out like a sore thumb with overwhelming bass. The pb10 just seamlessly fills out the bottom end of music. As far as movies i've already just grazed the bassiest scenes of LOTR The Two Towers and Jurassic Park. Very cool, you can literally feel what you see. Only question mark for me is how loud can I actually push this thing, my room is 11x10 and I like how loud it is but feel like I need more, pretty sure the sub can do more. Is there any way to check if i'm pushing it to much ??

Where do you have the volume control at and where do you have it crossed over at?

Gain is at about 4/10 and I have the subs crossover off, on the receiver the crossover for the main speakers and the sub is 80hz. 100hz for the center and surrounds. Could placement be the problem, I just switched it to right beside my seat to see if i would get more that way.

Are you lacking the hard hitting low bass or is it just not loud enough for you at any volume? Is it the music or the movies that the volume is not loud enough? Is it both?
Are you using any calibration tools or calibration tools that came with the AVR?

Try putting it in the front stage facing you, that may not be the final location, but it is a good start. I have found and it is not always the case but if the sub is infront of the mains or at the rear seating area the sub will most likely be out of phase.

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73201&highlight=crawling+bass

(post 7 details a nice way on how to find the best placement.)

For settings I would put the gain at 12 oclock and turn the crossover on the sub all the way to the right (120) and also disable the crossover.
Hope that helpos, lets us know if anything changes! Goodluck.

I was gonna ask if you redid the EZSet on your H/K after you put the SVS in the chain. Not sure how extensive H/K's equalization of the sub is, but it's something to consider.

As far as the gain goes, usually 1/3 on an SVS sub is about right. The key is to adjust gain on the sub so that your AVR's level trim ends up between 0 and about -4 to ensure that you aren't overloading the line-in when you crank the volume up.

Mostly lacking the hard hitting deep bass but volume too. Thing is I can see the driver moving like crazy, I just don't seem to hear sound equivalent to the movement. I did use the EZSet, all it did was lower the volume on my center channel, which I didn't like at all. I will try the crawling method when I get a chance. I had my subwoofer on my avr at +5 and the gain a tad higher then 1/3 so i'll have to lower the AVR's level.

Here is some info right from the SVS site!

It’s a good idea to check the subwoofer level control of your receiver before you begin the test tones. Keep the receiver's subwoofer output control to about 25% up or lower than "0 dB" (or say -6dB given a typical receiver channel limits of –12 dB to +12 dB) . This will allow your amp to work with the cleanest signal possible from your receiver, while still leaving plenty of downward adjustment you can use from your viewing position (using the remote).

By the way, make sure you have PHASE set to 0 on the SVS before doing EZSet. That way, the distance it detects at the mic should be the correct distance for keeping the sub in phase with the other channels.

1st...deep low bass isn't impactful, it's visceral. The lowest octave 30 -15hz is a mixture of very low effects and infrasonics. The impact and punch comes from 50 -100hz. Subs like the SVS are designed to be flat from just below tuning to around 100hz. Many first timers are underwhelmed at first because they are used to the midbass hump from conventional retail subs. That's usually a matter of taste and most get addicted to the cleaner flat bass very quickly.

2nd...you've got a nearly square, small room. Square rooms usually suffer from cancellation and the bass waves bounce and fold back on themselves. You're going to have to try various placement options and probably learn REW to see where your problems lie. I'm guessing you'll find a chasm in the 40-60hz range. Furniture re-arrangement might be mandatory.

Jack Gilvey from SVS or Ed Mullen can be very helpful if you contact them with your room layout. Give them a try.

Ok problem fixed, I had to move the sub in between the tv stand and the right front speaker. Now it faces the couch and it angled in a bit. I have all the other speakers set to small. I think I was getting standing waves or something. Now the sub truly does blow me away, music sounds awesome, and movies just shake all the walls. The best part is with the deep floor shaking bass it feels controlled, It's not just one note either, every rumble or shake is different feeling.
Appreciate all the help guys, very informative.

I never had the chance to hear one of them. I was ready to SVS order based on ratings, aesthetics (sp?) And even the dimensions. both fit perfectly and the price I want. Well, Klipsch is $ 700, but I have a chance to get it for $ 475. SVS plus postage will be $ 480.

How does this SVS' compared to Hsu STF-2 in music listening? I am considering also Polk's DSW micro2000, any comment?

The Hsu is a nice sub and I don't believe it would give anything away to the SVS in musical performance. The SVS will go deeper. Haven't heard the MP2K, but I wouldn't trade the Hsu for one. I'd think it would be a wash muscially with the Hsu with less output.
