Polarity issues

Hello,

I just go a pair of RTI A9 speakers and when I ran the auto setup on my yamaha reciever, it stated that they were out of phase. I triple checked the wiring for incorrect polarity and found no mistake. I ran the test again and it still stated it was out of phase. I switched the wires and hooked positive to negative and negative to positive. I ran the test again and the reciever stated the speakers were hooked up correctly. So, to make totally sure I took my surround speakers and hooked them up to the front and the Rti a9s to the back and the reciever stated the surrounds that I hooked up to the front were ok and the RTI A9s i hooked in the surround position were showing out of phase. What I am asking is, can the speakers be wired incorrectly in the box and if it is, can the speakers run perfectly fine and like it is supposed to if I keep them hooked up according to what the reciever states I should?

Thanks

Go with the right polarity. Don't listen to your receiver unless the appropriate polarity is out of phase.

It's possible there was a wiring error that slipped past QC.Do the speakers sound better when the one is connected with reversed polarity? If they are out of phase stereo imaging will be indistinct and bass response will be noticably reduced.

I would say 'pop' test them with a 9v BUT DC IS BAD FOR TWEETERS! Bad wiring COULD have slipped past QC(possible, not likely). FTGV nailed it though-if they're actually out of phase-low end will SUFFER and your stereo separation will be very narrow. Change polarity on ONE at a time until they sound right/better then re-run your setup and see what it says.

My Pioneer does the same thing occasionally with one of my surrounds.. that little mic isnt perfect.. if you are sure you have it hooked up right i'd leave it

I talked with polk and they stated because there is a "second order" crossover network in the speaker cabinet, it can "confuse" some reciever microphone tests. I took you all's advice and played with the set up. It ended up sounding great with it hooked up the correct way even though the reciever says it is "out of phase". Thanks for helping me out.

Find the the same problem with the RTI A9 speakers, check the polarity with 1.2 v AAA battery the subs move inwards an not outwards as with normal speakers tested. I had previously a set of Polk RTI A7 and thy respond positive to the test, any suggestions
    Thanks
