But this match going on right is pretty amazing. Tied at 41 sets in the final round, crazy. The past record was like 21. Never heard of either guy before but its still amazing to watch.

Amazing...7 hours and 40 minutes of tennis.........
Thats outrageous to still be serving at 133+
not one service break in the 5th apparently -
I can guarantee that this is something that none of us (or our children or children's children) will ever see again in our lifetimes. Freakish.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

53-53. 9 hours and change.
Big John Isner just changed his racket - yeah, that was exactly the problem earlier
Each has lost at least 6000 calories already, and will be absolutely fried for their next matches. Incredible. -
Not to overstate it... but this is some serious Casey at the Bat shiznit. Seriously. The stuff of legend.I never had it like this where I grew up. Are you guys watching on tennis channel? World cup is hogging the airways.

What a grudge match. Neither of them want to give up.
56-56
9 hours... -
Holy cow that sounds incredible. Really wish I had been watching it.
So did they play for 9 hours straight? Or was it a few hours yesterday and then a few today?George Grand wrote: »

no,no,no. They played the first 4 sets yesterday in a bit under 3 hours. The last 5th started today - 6 3/4 hours so far, and they are beginning to run out of daylight again -
They'll just move it to Centre Court. No way they're playing three consecutive days.I never had it like this where I grew up. Here is the kicker:
Isner - 98 aces
Mahut - 94 aces -
They just left the court - it's going to a 3rd day."The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides

Well, looks like it "ended" 59-59. It was kinda disappointing they took it off ESPN for Soccer, but I guess it was fine cause I had a lot of things to do and was stuck watching the tube. I guess this ends tomorrow. Probably the most tennis I've ever watched;)AVR: H/K AVR240

They just want to catch the end of the 2 World Cup games
Been watching it streamed side-by-side with the World Cup games on the meeting room projector at the office. Yes, the boss is watching too. -
Dang, I couldn't get the espn channel that was televising this. Hope they put it on tomorrow. What a true epic match."Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Bob Seger

Learn to play the game and you will love it forever!!!!!! -
John Isner=DGD! Thats Damn Good Dawg! He was a great one at UGA. Glad to see him having success in the pros. Everyone here in the US and especially the Dawg Nation are damn proud of him right now. Win or lose both players deserve a big pat on the back.

Borg - McEnroe 1980 Wimbledon, probably one of the best matches I've ever scene. A close 2nd would have been the 90's Jimmy Connor's US Open match against Michael Chang.
There were some memorable Lendl - McEnroe matches too. Sampras - Agassi is up there but behind the one's I've mentioned, IMO

I did say "One of" , not "The best"..:p;) -

Are you sure you're not thinking of Connors and Aaron Krickstein? That was the iconic US Open match where he was getting so excited. I think he had even turned 39 that day. I don't recall any memorable Connors - Chang matches.

Yuppers. That was legendary. Wasn't that against Carlos Moya?

I can't believe these slackers are not back on the court yet.

Speaking of Sampras.... What about when he was playing Courier in the Australian quarters and started crying (his coach having fallen gravely ill). Someone in the crowd yells "Do it for Tim, Pete!" Courier at one point tells Sampras, "We can stop and play it tomorrow if you want, Pete." At which point Sampras composes himself and immediately serves up a 120+mph ace.

Not sure if there are any other tennis junkies out here but when Wimbledon decided they wanted to make the tournament more competitive across a wider spectrum of players it did 3 things.
1. Went to a slower ball
2. Softened the turf
3. Lengthened the grass
For those who are tennis junkies and have been around long enough you will notice the surface doesn't get that burned up look at the end of the tournament whereas you would see it after a couple of days back in the 80's. Longer cut, no rolling with drums and softer turf = slower surface. I hate they did this, but it's their tournament. If the ATP/WTA wants 'equality' then why not go to a fast ball and artificial clay at Roland Garros to even out the dirt ballers advantage? Oh well, it's certainly making for insane drama.
Which makes it even more insane to see the serve velocities with a slow ball in the 130's from Isner. -
I think you're right ZB, the Chang match I was thinking of was the French Open of that same year. I grew up playing tennis, played in High School and kept it up for part of my adult life. Haven't played seriously in about 7 years. I would love to start playing again. I still watch the majors every year on TV.
