Sounds great! Last month I tipped the scales at 300lbs...I'm 5'11".

Needless to say, I gotta lose some.

Yeah I dropped about 20lbs earlier this year myself. Though I feel pretty good now, I don't recommend grief as a weight loss program.

I'm just on the "see-food" diet right now to hit my target weight before i hit the gym again. Easier to build muscle mass out of existing mass than it is to try and gain the weight from nothing.

You guys suck. When I'm bored / depressed I eat MORE, not less.

It's when I'm busy that I forget to eat and lose weight :)

That 'ol liquid diet can be a self-defeating endeavor when looking for employment. I always looked like road-kill back in those days. Doesn't really help with finding a job.

I tipped the scale at 178 this morning, I'm 5 foot 7 and a little out of shape but not necessarily fat. I could probably lose 10 pounds of fat. I gotta get back on my exercise schedule. Been off it for quite some time with all the work going on with the house.

Started working out last July when I was at 240. Worked my way down to about 195 by Feb and have been holding the 195-200# weight since then.

5'9". I could lose more, but I am satisifed with this as a decent weight I can maintain rather than a lower weight I have to work at all the time and watch EVERYTHING I eat....

Also went through some rough times career wise, this past two years.
Stress, pay cuts, declining job security etc..
My weight dropped from 220 to 195 (I'm 5'11"), in about 18 months.
I guess the two are related.
One thing though, going on a "liquid only diet" wasn't an option. I got a kid now, who depend on me
One of the first thing I plan to do when the economy finally bounces back, is go get seriously hammered :p:D

I've started running again as I hate cardio but must do it to lose, that with my lowered calorie intake I've lost a few pounds but want to lose a bit more. Want to get to my target weight but it sucks as I know I'm going to lose a lot of muscle doing it but its gotta come off.

Amen, brotha! I have my 6-pack protected behind a nice layer of plushness. It's there, though; I promise . 4 years ago I was 5'8", 172 lbs and could bench 235 lbs and ran a 4.47 40 (played cornerback in high school). Now I'm 5'9", 180, can bench 175 and can't really run much because I tore my MCL and it never healed properly. I miss the old days...

    2. Eat mostly or ONLY a Chinese diet with almost no sweets or milk products.
    3. Work at a job that requires a lot of standing time and walking?
    4. 30-50 pounds of weight loss GUARANTEED or your money back!

Not exactly your stateside chinese buffet. lol

Hey Doc, could you elaborate on what the "Chinese Diet" is? It'll help a lot of folks here and you could answer questions better than I can since I'm not Chinese. I'm guessing it wouldn't be too difficult to duplicate that diet here in the US depending on where you live.

    1. Portion size?
    2. How many meals a day?
    3. What type of protein were you consuming? Mostly fish and seafood?
    4. What were the protein/fat/carb ration like?
    5. What were you drinking with your meals? I'm guessing you weren't drinking the local water.
    6. Snacks? I'm guessing none.
    7. We're carb crazed over here whether that be carb counting (e.g. Atkins, South Beach) or just eating too much white bread and pizza. How much rice and noodles were you consuming? I'm curious because rice and noodles are a large part of our family's diet but my US relatives are suffering from diabetes but the ones from the old world are not and I'm guessing it's carbs + high calorie diet + inactivity.
    8. I'm guessing white rice?
    9. How much standing and walking are you talking about? I'm a firm believer that the human species was designed for lots of walking or very short burst of sprinting.

I apologize for all the questions and if I missed an old thread of yours that already covered this topic.

    Thx

Of course I am not Chinese....but let me briefly respond to your questions.

Chinese food in China is devoid of a lot of the starches and brown sauces and sugars used in many Chinese Restaurants in the U.S. So the caloric content is lower!

I eat about 3 meals a day. And snack on peanuts, pistachios, walnuts, and almonds--but not more than a handful or so at a time. A small amount seems to be filling enough?

Breakfast consists of two or three red bean paste Baozi (a kind of small round dumpling stuffed with the paste) and some TEA!

Lunch, a bowl of noodles with various veggies, sometimes one egg, and Dofu (Tofu)...not much oil, salt or sugar there. And yes, water--lots of bottled water. Perhaps some tea or even coffee (I regress into American drinking habits now and then.)

I have a bottled water service like we do in the U.S. that delivers distilled water in 5 gallon bottles so I MOSTLY drink water, and some Tea! No calories there!

Dinner: This can be just about any dish...but usually a sampling of at least four different dishes and a good size bowl of, yes, white rice. My main sources of protein are Dofu, pork, and chicken and beef--in order of largest to smallest amounts.

In reality I consume a bit more than half of the protein I consume in the U.S. Chinese portions do not allow for GREAT meat consumption like a full sized T-bone steak at ONE MEAL. Examples of daily staples for me would be dishes with eggplant, string beans and various other Chinese beans, spicey cabbage, winter melon, asparagus with pork, beef or chicken, shrimp with bean sprouts, Lotus roots, a multitude of mushroom and fungi dishes (some are considered good for the digestion here) and so on. And occasionally some steamed fish in whatever the sauce of the day is--and it is usually a very LIGHT sauce.

I also have some steamed fruit for a late night snack.

As you can see from the very 'partial' list above. My calorie intake is NOT very great, and the protein is about average to low average, yet I am in no way at a loss for energy on this diet. Nor do I feel any HUNGER!

My work involves standing and walking about 3-4 hours a day. 4-5 days a week. Mostly standing and pacing because I am lecturing during that time and I move like a caged lion.

Don't know if I've covered everything. My diet is certainly more varied than I can describe...but you get the picture. It is very Unlike the standard American diet.

No sweets, less salt, a lot of oil but that oil usually remains at the bottom of the dish and you really consume a lot less oil than is used to cook the dish because the oils are light (canola) and the sauces are thin so the oil rolls off and settles on the bottom of the dish.

Sorry I can't give exact caloric figures because that's very difficult considering the variety of the dishes here and the fact that they are mostly unknown.
