My 16 month old Onkyo TXSR 706 has been having issues as of late, keep blowing out the left channel. Instead of dumping more money into it, I'm looking at getting a new unit.

Currently I a debating between the Pioneer and getting the Onkyo 807, which would be the forth Onkyo I have had. I've found deals on both around the $600 range but I'm willing to put a couple hundred more in if anyone has another suggestion.

Only major need is 4 HDMI inputs which both have.

Would love some feedback on both.

Thanks.

I would suggest looking into the pioneer elite line of recievers if your willing to put more money into it. They are great recievers. I myself have an older elite reciever, and I would never part with it.

    Good luck

I would take the Pioneer ELite over the Onkyo for sound quality reasons. I personally like the warm dynamic tone of the vsx21 over the forward sounding of the Onkyo. Not to mention the cool Ipod connection on the Pioneer is better then anyone else who tries.

Thanks guys. I've been researching units for about a week now. Don't know why I didn't search here first once I settled on 2. After reading all the info here (Dan thanks for all the input on numerous threads), sounds like the pioneer is the direction I'm going to go. Will be fun to have something other then Onkyo for once. Found one dirty cheap on ebay. Hopefully I wake up with a new receiver.

Love my 21txh also! Excellent for the price. Better than all competitors imo.
I owned 3 onkyos and 1 harmon kardon and it surpasses both in sound and features.
