On the same topic we were discussing in the 'turntable leads' thread. Apparently Nordost had/has a model also, the model CBD1 - $960 retail.

Not saying I'm going to rush out and get one, but it does answer the question 'Can I break/burn in my cables, without using my rig'.

Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Interesting technical discussion. The first that I have seen on this topic. Call it hocus-pocus, vodoo, etc. I'm a "burn-in" believer myself.

Interesting read.....
but do you have to buy cables from them for them to burn them for ya or what? I can't imagine that would be a big selling item simply because it'd typically be a one time usage (if ya did all your cables at once and didn't switch them), no?comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Holy crap.
I'm not even touching this one.LSi 9/C/FX

I'd assume it's only for use if you buy their cables new. I didn't happen to notice, do they sell this cooker? I don't need it for personal use, but hey. If Frank can do it, then so can I.
I've heard that once cables burn-in, if you move them (shipping), the process might need to be repeated. I could see where they might need to indicate signal flow atleast. Then again I don't know if this is an actual consideration. Opinions?Make it Funky! -

I've heard that cables need to be burned in again after excessive vibration or bending them around also. I used to think most of this type thing was mumbo jumbo but I'm open to the concepts. I think that to even approach being able to hear the difference probably requires top notch equipment and an open mind.

i remember a bunch of local audiophiles in a club around these parts pitched in to purchase a "burn-in" machine and they all took turns with their cables. Maybe that is what they are aiming for to sell these products. not just for one time use, but group use

I could have used something like this along time ago.As I have owned many many different cables and always noticed a difference after a period of use, burn in I strongly believe just like speaker break in.
Some cables out of the box sound to the point of harsh....I don't fully understand why they do that but they do....then after time they warm up......Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
would speaker cables benifit from the burn in process? Or is this process more for interconnects?

ezc,
Both supposedly benefit.
Russ,
Didn't think of it over in the TT lead thread, but remember reading years ago about a few different burn in CD's that were on the market. As I recall some could be rather hard on electronics.
Somewhere in the Stereophile library there are some reviews.More later,
