Best movies of the decade

I know I'm a little late considering we are 6 months into the new decade... But after watching Avatar, I heard some say its one of the best of the decade and I was SHOCKED, the film is only worth the special effects (and in our case, sound effects). So it made me think of some of my favs for the 00s. Maybe a waste of time, but I'm bored so here goes.

-Lord of the rings (If I had to choose one, the fellowship of the ring but they are all great)
-Master and commander
-The Last samurai (what avatar wanted to be)
-No country for old men (Very tense movie but almost ruined by the extremely anti-climatic death near the end, but still great movie)

And for **** and giggles, some of the worst (big budget)

-Day after tomorrow (though its great to watch drunk)
-Pearl Harbor
-Star wars Episode II
-2012
-Avatar

Add on if you like I know I'm missing a lot..

Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan (starting to sound like a Tom Hanks rally), LOTR series, Ocean's series, Dark Knight, Titanic (say what you will, Cameron is a genius).

I'm all confused now... we're talking about 1900-10, right? If so, I nominate that one with the train that comes right at you and you think it's real (but it's not). And everyone gets all scared and jumps. Because there's a freakin' train coming right at you (but not really).

    Good times.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I suppose there were some 'good' films in the last decade or so. But NOT many. LOTR...you really have to be a FAN to say that those are great films....they're a bit boring and plodding and outside of special effects, if you've read the books what, if anything do the films add?

Master and Commander...have it but have not seen it.

Last Samurai...watch a Kurosawa film instead.

No Country for Old Men...OK, I gotta say yes on that. But I'm really at a loss for films I thought were Great in recent times. Good, yes.

Great? For me that takes an awful lot. Bergman, Kurosawa, Zhang Yimou, Bunuel, Ozu, and so on....of course these are oldies but goodies.

So "great" films can only come from Asian directors? That's kind of ridiculous.

I'm going to assume he meant 2000-2010. Otherwise I don't think these threads allow that many characters to list all the movies!

Personally I loved Day After Tomorrow and Avatar. Obviously as far as plot and story goes, they're both lacking. I have never seemed to care that much though, as long as a lot of though was put into the action and ACTING.

I've seen a lot of crappy movies be saved by a great performance from its actors.

Oh, and if we're going from 2010-2020 I have to add Hot Tub Time Machine. Seriously.

Hot Tub Time Machine was one of the best comedies I've seen in years.

Squirrels + Projectile Vomit = Awesomeness

Especially when the squirrel gets even!

Personally, I like the scene after that best (when they lose the "bet").

My wife made me watch the Twilight movies. Except for the wooden acting, the stilted dialog and the slow pace, they were somewhat watchable.

I don't get the premise of the new Karate Kid.

From the trailers, Jackie Chan's character intones in a wisened old voice "I will teach you traditional Kung Fu" - yet the movie is "Karate" Kid.

What has Kung Fu (Chinese Martial art) have to do with Karate (Japanese folk art)?

Looking over my DVD collection these are some of my favorite films of the decade.

    In no particular order:

    The Departed

    Memento

    No Country For Old Men

    The Incredibles

    Star Trek

    Zodiac

    A Beautiful Mind

    Capitalism: A Love Story

    Almost Famous

    Cinderella Man

    Batman Begins

    The Aviator

    Sideways

State of Play..a BBC mini series that probably doesn't count but I liked it just the same.

Overall I think it was a bit of a weak 10 years for film. I never read nor got into some of the blockbuster films like Rings or Potter.
    2 Channel:
    Amp/Parasound Halo A23
    Pre/Carver C-1
    Tuner/Carver TX-11a

    Inland Empire.

By the way Laura Dern absolutely should have won the Acadamy Award for the role she played. No one did a better job acting than she did in that role in 2006. Period.

The best movie of the decade is Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl. This movie story is different from any other movie. The animation and sound quality is marvellous and enjoyable. Moreover dressing style is also different of all the character of this movie.
